When you have a specific dish in mind, you research places where it can be well prepared. And when you're looking for Welsh rarebit, one particular bistro name often comes up: La Brocantine. Reservation made, checking reviews and photos makes our mouths water and confirms our choice. Finally, the big day arrives: a classic facade, and as you get closer, you're immediately transported to the past with its carefully curated decor, filled with objects and brands from our childhood. A warm atmosphere envelops you, and you lose track of time; it's a complete change of scenery, a true time capsule. Indeed, the establishment (hence its name) is also a real flea market, with all sorts of objects. I confess, I didn't pay much attention to the menu, having come specifically for the Welsh rarebit, but I can't help but appreciate the details. When we ordered our beer (the establishment offers a good selection with very different styles), cherry tomatoes from the garden were served. We were even told that the spices used in the dishes came from the garden whenever possible. The establishment takes great care in its product selection, and it certainly shows.
The arrival of the much-anticipated Welsh rarebit brought us right back to reality.
And what a beautiful reality it was! 😋 It was magnificent, with a light crust, and you could easily dip the homemade fries served alongside it. Visually, it was already a treat. The first taste of the cheddar, perfectly stretchy and melty, was simply perfect. You search for the perfect bite: bread, ham, egg—pure bliss. You can taste the whole-grain mustard without it overpowering the cheddar. It was hearty, flavorful, generous, delicious—I'm at a loss for words to describe the satisfaction I felt. It was exactly the feeling I wanted when I was craving a good Welsh rarebit!
For those with a sweet tooth, the restaurant also offers desserts, including a Liège waffle with a scoop of ice cream. Kudos to the chefs, whom we had the pleasure of thanking for the wonderful meal, and thank you to the team for their smiles and warm welcome.

A truly wonderful discovery!
A truly unique, warm, and charming restaurant. The dishes are simply delicious, bursting with flavor. You can tell the ingredients are carefully selected and everything is prepared with passion. 😍
But what makes the experience even more enjoyable is the warm welcome and kindness of the owners: friendly and smiling people.
A place that's out of the ordinary, where you can eat very well in a charming, vintage setting. An address I wholeheartedly recommend and where I will gladly return! ❤️

We had a wonderful evening.
From the moment you step inside this restaurant, you enter the world of a vintage shop that also serves food.
The dishes served are very good and the service is very pleasant. I highly recommend it.
Certainly the best Welsh rarebit in the Lille metropolitan area.

I stumbled upon it on Instagram.
A delightful culinary discovery and a journey back in time—we were in heaven. A restaurant that's also a vintage shop. It was a feast for the eyes! I now understand why Welsh rarebit is one of the best in the North; it's the best I've ever had. The baked egg, perfect for sharing with toast soldiers, just like in our childhood. The beef tartare was a real treat, and the cherry on top was the brown sugar waffle on a bed of milk—it melted in your mouth with its caramel ice cream, mmm!
The welcome was very friendly, the atmosphere both warm and intimate.
Thank you for this wonderful experience.

I've been lucky enough to go twice, and each time I've been won over… by the food, the warm atmosphere, but especially by the welcome! I recently celebrated my birthday there, and the whole restaurant sang—needless to say, I was overjoyed! 🥰🥰 The owners sit down and chat with the customers; it's a truly special moment. See you very soon!

Everything is perfect in this charming little restaurant:
From the welcome to the decor and the service... but especially the food!
The Welsh rarebit is undoubtedly among the best in the region, but it's not the only dish worth trying!
A must-try!
Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, and I can't wait to come back!

Fantastic restaurant, with a small menu of 3 or 4 dishes that confirm the freshness of the ingredients. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and kind; it was a real pleasure chatting with them!
We ordered the Welsh rarebit because it's apparently one of the best, and we can confidently say it was THE best we've ever tasted 🤩
We also had the waffle for dessert, which was excellent!
We'll gladly come back to try other specialties.
Thank you!!!!
