Continuing my journey through the Noiron-sous-Gevrey region, after many stops at inns and taverns, I paused at a place called La Fabrique Gourmande to sample a dish said to be among the most famous: the gourmet bowl. To my great surprise, the dish featured golden fries, a most unusual thing in my knightly eyes, as such preparations were unheard of on our medieval tables. The minced beef, however, revealed a refined taste I had anticipated, and the sauce, layered with melted Reblochon-style cheese and gently caramelized onions, confirmed, by its richness and finesse, that the cook was well-versed in the flavors of our Dauphiné lands.
Having challenged the owner, I was able to appreciate that, despite the unusual nature of some of the ingredients, the dish lived up to its name and satisfied a palate well-versed in the culinary traditions of our region. My steed was able to rest in the shade, a sign that the traveler finds honor and comfort there. I set off again, fulfilled, to spread this news to the king, so that the excellence and uniqueness of this feast might be known.
