La Ferme Saint Bernard sur Castellar

It was truly an experience to stay here for a night with our roof tent! I was scared when we drove there but everything went well and it felt safer when we drove down. The hostess cooks her own food so when you eat there you don't order anything but just get what she cooked, which was really nice and very tasty. When we walked the small path down to the tent we were accompanied by a donkey which was an experience in itself.

A really beautiful camping spot! However, it was quite difficult to reach with my motorcycle and street tires. Just as recommended here, an off-road motorcycle or a 4x4 vehicle is advisable. Sheep occasionally wander by, but they usually move away if you get too close – so no need to worry. There's some sheep droppings and a few flies, which can be a bit annoying at times, but that's just nature. :) The view is priceless! At night, it was very quiet, at least for us. The sanitary facilities are very basic, but that gives them a certain charm (1 shower, 2 toilets, 1 laundry room). If I ever need another campsite in this area, I'll definitely inquire again! Lovely, peaceful stay, very warm welcome

Great dinner. However there was language misunderstanding and unfortunately the owner charged me to include breakfast despite me never asking for breakfast and insisted I had to pay a higher rate to cover the charge. A nice French camper had to help me translate and get my money back - but unfortunately it felt dishonest from the owner. Be careful if you are english speaking that you are only charged for what you ask for and not over charged!

We arrived by bicycle with a tent. The access road was very steep, but with a low gear ratio and a bit of a tacky maneuver, it was just about manageable. Our arrival was rough and the host wasn't very welcoming, but the hostess who joined us later was very friendly! The campsite is in a beautiful location with a great view towards the sea. However, a large part of the campsite smells of sheep, and there are animal droppings everywhere. If you're camping in a tent, hope you find dry manure! :) Speaking of manure, toilet paper isn't provided; you have to bring your own. There's only one shower for the entire campsite, but it's adequate. Dinner was delicious and excellent value for €20 per person, and the service was good as well. Definitely an experience for one night! Earplugs might be a good idea, as the barking of dogs isn't bothersome.

An exceptional location 700m above Menton, surrounded by nature, where a refreshing breeze blows – much appreciated during this heatwave – with the sea and Cap Martin visible in the distance. A warm welcome, a single, excellent homemade menu. Everything is perfect, and the owner is charming and very friendly. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Probably one of the best spots I ever stayed at. Amazing views, super friendly owner, clean ablutions block.
