The best gastronomic moments in France are when they are most unexpected. We were passing through St Cyprien on the last day of our holiday looking for a bite to eat and came across La Taverne. First impression was the place was well located by the fountain but inside looked a little tired and food would be simple and tourist focused with nothing special. We could not have been more wrong! We had a superb lunch - simple food done really well at a fair price. It was frequented by a large number of locals as well as tourists of all nationalities. We had the biggest, juiciest steak and desserts were fantastic - an amazing pain perdu and a café gourmand worth the visit on its own! We are regular visitors to périgord noir and Saint Cyprien is a very local town to where we stay. Safe to say La Taverne is on our 'à récidiver' list!
