La Tete Noire sur Marnes-La-Coquette

It's a real shame, the food itself is very good. Personally, I found the terrine and burger very good, and the homemade mayo was a nice touch. I recommend it. The only downside, which significantly lowered the rating, was the service, which was truly disappointing. It took over an hour and a half to be served our main course and starter, we had to ask for water, and we had to ask for the sauces several times... you missed out on some desserts because they looked really good...

A very warm welcome. Excellent setting and meal for a more than reasonable price. It's been a long time since we've eaten so well in a restaurant. The marinated pork and fruit salad were divine! An honest waiter too! Perfect time management as a bonus. A meal worthy of a gourmet restaurant, with a main course priced at €15. Or €24.50 for a starter, main course, and dessert...

Very pleasant under the linden trees

A magnificent summer terrace – and desserts that will make you lose all restraint. I remembered La Tête Noire from my childhood. However, the real reason for our visit was the terrace: gravel underfoot, old trees overhead, fairy lights, and the backdrop of the village square in Marnes-la-Coquette. After a long walk through the Parc de Saint-Cloud and the surrounding woods, it was the perfect end to the day. The terrace is truly the restaurant's greatest asset. Early in the evening, the scene is almost magical. Later, however, as it fills up, it becomes quite lively, and a neighboring table smoking can significantly shorten the magic. We were lucky and sat relatively centrally under the trees – close enough to the action, but still with some space around us. The Aperol Spritz to start was spot on. The appetizers were refreshingly true to classic French bistro fare: The homemade pork terrine with gherkins and toasted bread was robust and very flavorful. The Œufs mimosa also impressed with their understated precision. At under ten euros, both dishes were a delightfully honest start. The enthusiasm waned somewhat with the main courses. The onglet de bœuf arrived with confit shallots and homemade fries. No one inquired about the desired doneness, and the generous layer of shallots obscured the roasted aroma, juiciness, and natural flavor of the meat. The fries, undoubtedly hand-cut, had unfortunately lost their crispness before being served. The duck breast was cooked to an appealing pink and was more convincing overall, even if the peppercorn sauce seemed more like a homeopathic touch. Both main courses were decent, classic brasserie fare – just not the part of the evening we'd make a special trip for. But when it came to dessert, all restraint vanished. The lemon meringue tart was phenomenal: rich, pleasantly tangy lemon cream beneath an impressive, torched meringue mountain – the best lemon tart I've had in years. The profiteroles arrived with a lavishness that could almost be described as baroque. This is how a classic French dessert should be presented. The service was efficient and quick, but remained more neutral than warm. It's clear the restaurant knows its regular clientele and handles a large number of customers on the terrace during the summer evenings. Everything ran smoothly, but without any particularly personal touch. La Tête Noire is no hidden gem; reservations are highly recommended in the summer. La Tête Noire thrives on its setting. The village square, the old trees, and the verdant surroundings enhance the evening more than the cuisine itself, permeating every course. The appetizers are impressive, the main courses are solid – but anyone booking here should have room, budget, and perhaps a little restraint left for dessert.

The food was nice, however there was a very long wait before our order was taken, the same for serving our aperitif and the main course arrived at the same time, so it's really a shame because the food is good and the setting is pleasant.

The setting contributes to the restaurant's quality. As a regular customer, I noticed a few drawbacks this time: the service was rather unfriendly and inattentive, orders were placed but not followed, and the food was slightly less good than on previous visits. It's a shame, because I really like the place and the atmosphere.
