I stumbled upon this place by chance in the middle of the market, drawn in by the sunny terrace. I snagged a free table without having to wait. And what a surprise! The restaurant, a victim of its own success, was quickly booked up (and understandably so, remember to reserve 😅). The menu is excellent, generous, and high-quality. And the price is more than reasonable! Pictured here is a homemade cordon bleu and a praline tiramisu. It was superb, I had a wonderful time, and the staff is very attentive, which is really nice. Thank you so much!

I've been back to Balthazar several times for several reasons: the quality of service (professional), the good food (steak tartare and hamburgers are excellent), the fact that it's not too noisy, and the icing on the cake: the decor and cozy atmosphere.
I recommend this place.

The menu was lovely, the dishes very good and well presented (steak tartare with homemade fries, honey and thyme lamb with homemade fries, and duck parmentier), the desserts were equally good, but the prices remain high, especially for desserts, around 9 euros for a chocolate mousse or French toast with a scoop of ice cream. The service was satisfactory, although we heard two waiters arguing and exchanging insults; it was a bit much.

I was disappointed with lunch in the rather upmarket brasserie on the market square in St Ger. They served me so quickly I felt that, as a solo diner, they wanted me out as soon as possible. The boeuf bourguignon was watery and fatty though the wine list was good. I’ll not be coming back.

The restaurant enjoys an excellent location right on the square by the post office. Be aware that there are a few steps throughout the space which could be tricky for anyone with mobility issues. We were seated near the stairs leading to the restrooms, an area that felt a bit unfinished, but actually provided a nice bit of privacy away from the main dining noise.
Service was good no complaints there.
The food was decent overall with generous portions although the balance could be improved. The Thai Beef salad had beef that was quite tough and difficult to chew. The salmon salad offered plenty of greens but not much salmon.
