Le Cafe Noir sur Dinan

Good food and great service. I had the hamburger gourmand and my wife had the coquille Saint Jacques avec Crevettes. Extensive beer and wine selection. The staff knows how to make a mean Americano Cocktail.

Conveniently located in the center of Dinan, this establishment has everything going for it, but unfortunately, the illusion doesn't last long. The owner is completely overwhelmed, incapable of managing his staff respectfully in front of customers, and the manager is equally incompetent. This kind of approach to motivating and encouraging staff can't create a good atmosphere, and unfortunately, the customer suffers. It's fortunate that some young people desperately need to work; I wish them the best of luck. And don't even get me started on the cleanliness and the state of the restrooms—it's shameful. Choosing another place seems like a wise decision.

Fantastic experience! We were a large school group and the staff were exceptional and patient with our young French learners. The menu was excellent, and the service was quick and efficient. A big thank you for our delicious lunch.

We arrived without a reservation, a group of 14. We had already come the previous year as a group of 6 and had a good experience. So we came back, but twice as many. Unsurprisingly, they went out of their way to make sure we were all together in a secluded room :-) It felt like being at home. Excellent value for money. The welcome was fantastic. Thank you again. Your establishment is now one of our favorites when we visit.

Impromtu lunch. Nice outdoor seating area and well priced meal deals. It was good food and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their food too. The only problem was the deserts took an age to arrive. They were delicious, but I could see no reason to have to wait for so long.

We came to Dinan for the first time and decided to have lunch at Café Noir (the bistro menu looked appealing). First, we were very surprised by the sheer number of choices on the menu (writing it down on parchment would have been more traditional). Our starters (warm goat cheese and "homemade" tuna rillettes) consisted of three-quarters salad (which was rather tasteless) and two small toasts. The burger, on the other hand, was good overall, though the quality of the patty and the amount of cheese were unremarkable. The duck leg was quite good, even if the side dish—Salardaise potatoes—came with some sad, half-cooked bacon bits, which were just as sad as we were at the sight of such rainy weather. Speaking of which, we were sitting in the corner of the terrace, enjoying the rain with the frogs, because no waiter bothered to invite us inside… The staff seemed to be rather stoic, except for one of the waitresses who was very kind and pleasant.

A good meal with well-prepared dishes, and a reasonable price. Pleasant terrace in the sun.
