Le Chalut sur Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer

We had a wonderful meal at Chalut! It's not easy to find your way around this restaurant street, which is very popular with tourists. However, we stumbled upon a real gem in terms of value for money. €24 for a starter and main course with the set menu. My partner opted for the charcuterie board, which was very generous, and I had the tellines (small clams) in a perfectly balanced creamy garlic sauce. I left for five minutes to get my partner's jacket from the car, but unfortunately, the starter had already been served by the time I left. When I returned, one of the waiters kindly offered to replace the main course with something hotter. For our main courses, we had the red mullet and sea bream fillets. Both were cooked perfectly, with a delicious sauce and side dishes. Despite the somewhat drab decor and the occasionally clumsy waiters, don't hesitate to try Chalut; it's not a tourist trap.

Excellent value for money. The mussels and oysters were excellent, very fresh. The service was also very pleasant: young, smiling, friendly waiters who were always attentive. The establishment was clean and the wait time was perfectly reasonable. The only small suggestion for improvement: offering homemade fries. Otherwise, no complaints, we had a very good meal and we will gladly return.

A wonderful discovery in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer! Le Chalut is an authentic and welcoming place, far removed from tourist traps. The welcome is warm, the atmosphere familial, and the dishes are generous and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the typical Camargue cuisine, fresh produce, and expertly prepared specialties. Special mention goes to the bull stew and the tellines (small clams), a real treat! Excellent value for money and friendly service. A place I wholeheartedly recommend and where we will gladly return! 😊

A lack of attention to detail : staff seemed to know how to take an order and take away dishes, but that was about it. Tables hopelessly cluttered (ice cubes with white wine?, plastic orange tree, etc.). Waiters didn't seem to know how to match orders with customers. No plate for the prawn and mussels shells. No finger bowl or hand wipes offered. No coffees offered as desserts cleared. I could go on... They just need some training and one senior figure to guide them. Oh, and don't say the Panna Cotta is home made then cover it with some cheap commercial syrup as topping.
