Le Freudeneck Restaurant sur Wangenbourg-Engenthal

What an amazing hotel and restaurant in the heart of Alsace! So glad we took the advice of other travellers and gave it a try. The highlight is the food… a very professionally run restaurant with local dishes cooked with great care and served in a lovely contemporary dining room. The chef is very talented. The wine list showcases some excellent local wines at very reasonable prices. The breakfast buffet is simple but fresh (excellent croissants, bread and local cheese and ham as well as cereals, yogurts and fruit). We were seriously impressed with the food. The portions are very generous! The rooms above the restaurant have been given a contemporary lick of paint and the beds are modern and super comfy but the bathrooms remain firmly rooted in the 1970s (it’s a long time since we’ve seen an avocado suite!). We felt this added a certain charm and everything worked amazingly well which is all that matters after a hard day’s walking. The only thing we missed was a kettle and cups to make a morning drink. We’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re planning a trip to this lovely area.

Passing through after a hike in the massif, we spent a very good night at the hotel, excellent bedding, quiet room, the bathroom a little outdated but functional. The restaurant is very good, simple but effective cuisine for a very reasonable price. Impeccable welcome and service. I recommend.

Unfortunately the room is small and not particularly nice. It needs to be renovated. The dinner was very good. Breakfast good. Sufficient parking spaces in front of the house. Castle ruins 20 minutes away on foot. They speak German, English and of course French. But price/performance is still ok. 75€ for one night for 2 people with breakfast.

I was only there for 1 night. By bike. The journey was easier than expected. My bike was stored in the locked basement. Room was renovated, clean and functional. Bathroom a little older. Particularly noteworthy is the excellent food in the restaurant. That's worth the trip. And the warmth of the hosts.

(Concerns the restaurant) How can we not feel a deep respect for this couple who only work 2 people and 6 days a week; some people should turn their brains “on” before making hurtful comments. Traditional cuisine, mastered cooking, extremely reasonable prices, generosity and smiling service, what more could you ask for on vacation?

Very nice accommodation, two people were traveling on motorbikes

We came as a motorcycle group for a long weekend. Hospitality is really important here! And the food is sensational! Price/performance top! An ideal place as a starting point for tours! Parts of the hotel and the rooms have already been renovated, other rooms such as the sanitary facilities are still partly in their old condition, but extremely clean. We will be back! Many thanks to the operators for the good time we had here!
