Le Grain de Sel sur Malestroit

Just passing through for one evening, we checked the rating and reviews. It's a really lovely place, the staff is superb, the food is delicious and plentiful, and the value for money is incredible! Don't hesitate!

Unfortunately, Le Grain de Sel lives up to its name... We had a pleasant time during the aperitif, but afterwards we felt forgotten. The wait between the aperitif and the arrival of the main courses was particularly long, with no real information provided. When our dishes finally arrived, some weren't very hot and the cooking wasn't up to our expectations. It's a shame, as it spoiled part of the experience.

The main course (hake) was very good. The strawberry Bavarian cream dessert would have been better if it had actually tasted like strawberries.

Fantastic. Superb. I can say we sampled practically the entire menu because we went three times during the heatwave that forced us to dock for several days in Malestroit due to the lock closures. It was the only restaurant that kindly took us in (some establishments did close for this reason, when we needed it most…?) and they were very friendly despite the jet lag that Spaniards tend to cause abroad. There were 12 of us, 4 of whom were children. The ribs were delicious and very juicy (that crosswise cut, not lengthwise, which we don't usually make in Spain), as were the entrecote and the tartare. The mussels were exquisite. The salads too. The house red wine is also very good, and the house blonde beer (I don't remember the name, it seemed craft-style) was very refreshing, a local favorite. Basically, everything was very well-prepared and authentic, and very reasonably priced considering the menu options, individual dishes, etc. … It's definitely worth going, besides the great personal service we received, everything was absolutely delicious.

Twelve of us arrived in the middle of a heatwave. They served us and gave us a table at 2:00 PM, something unthinkable when you're outside of Spain. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was fantastic. I highly recommend it if you're ever in the area; in fact, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. We actually had lunch and dinner there.

Trad café bar in the town centre, mostly patronised by locals. A set lunch menu for about €30 included a kir aperitif, 3 courses & a glass of decent house wine. The food choices were traditional French, very interesting & tasty. We had eaten here 2 months before & our second visit established that the place is consistently good & great value.
