Le Lamparo sur Port-La-Nouvelle

We enjoyed our dinner on Tuesday evening. It was fresh, well-prepared, and the sea bream was cooked perfectly with its accompanying vegetables. Oysters and dessert were included in the set menu. A pleasant experience for us, as tourists passing through. Perhaps a small tablecloth, even a paper one, would have been appreciated for the table setting, especially with the evening menu. We have been eating there for a few years now during our holidays; the food is excellent, and we are always warmly welcomed.

We've been coming back to Lamparo for over twenty years, and this loyalty probably sums up our appreciation of this Port-la-Nouvelle restaurant better than any other comment. Yes, things have changed. But over the years, we've found remarkable consistency in its value for money, with generous set menus that allow you to enjoy fish and seafood without the prices charged by many establishments along the coast. A special mention goes to the 3-course set menu available Monday through Saturday at €18.50, which is cheaper than even the most basic à la carte dish in any restaurant in the resort. In the evening, we generally choose the €34 set menu, which allows us to eat heartily and with pleasure. We particularly recommend the seafood platter and the varied and adaptable mixed fish platter, especially if one fish isn't to our liking. We also appreciate the restaurant's flexibility: the option to adapt certain side dishes, the respect for the pace of the meal, and the consideration of special requests without the feeling that everything becomes complicated or incurs an extra charge. This is commendable and rare enough to be worth mentioning. The team is fairly stable, although perhaps a little too small to accommodate those in a hurry during peak periods. The service is well-managed and professional, primarily handled by the head waitress. Admittedly, for those unfamiliar with her, her welcome might lack warmth, be reserved, and seem aloof, but she's worth getting to know. She is very efficient, quick, attentive to our satisfaction with every course, and above all, what we appreciate is the respect for our pace. We never feel rushed. And we always look forward to seeing Bertrand, the owner, whose warm welcome greatly contributes to the establishment's character. Of course, after so many years, we also see a few areas for improvement. We would appreciate a slightly more focused menu, more Mediterranean and seasonal fish dishes, and more elegantly presented plates. Why not a Sète-style sauce, a rouille, or a bourride? The mussels have been inconsistent on some visits, and the drinks seem rather expensive. A refresh of the decor would also be welcome. But these are minor points compared to the overall experience. We keep coming back because we eat well, in generous portions, at prices we still consider very competitive, in a restaurant where we feel comfortable. After more than twenty years, we don't claim that Le Lamparo is perfect. We can simply observe something much more telling: we continue to return with pleasure.

We opted for the set menu (between courses and dessert) which was very reasonably priced and the food was good. Special mention goes to the very friendly waiter.

The worst mussels I've ever eaten. The mussels were ice-cold first and then burning hot. The cream turned into milk. They had no taste whatsoever. (Bland) Find the difference: the set menu is €15.50, and the à la carte menu is €20 for the same thing.

A pleasant restaurant, with good value for money, as well as very good service.

A calm, welcoming place. The waiter was very friendly and smiling. The wait was perfectly reasonable, and the food was good. I recommend it.

A good experience. Nice little set menu at €18.50. They accept dogs. We'll be back.
