A 12th-century Romanesque basilica, typical of Auvergne Romanesque art. Admire the whole structure and pay particular attention to the capitals in the ambulatory. Don't forget to go down to the crypt.

Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Port is one of the most important Romanesque churches in Clermont-Ferrand, built in the 12th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the "Way of Saint James". Its most distinctive feature is its typical Auvergne Romanesque architecture, constructed using local golden sandstone, earning it the nickname "Church of Notre-Dame de la Golden," a striking contrast to the city's larger cathedral built of black volcanic rock. The church is most famous for its tiered, pyramidal apse structure, over 250 exquisitely carved capitals, and numerous medieval symbolic sculptures. While not enormous in scale, it is considered one of the best-preserved and most harmonious Romanesque churches in France.
