Le Merle Moqueur sur Plouguiel

We enjoyed two evening meals here recently. The menu is small, well prepared and very nicely presented. Produce is locally sourced. The service is attentive and unhurried and restaurant is spotlessly clean and decorated in a simple way. A great find in a little village.

It couldn't be more perfect. In the ambience of a casual, cozy village pub you will be surprised in a friendly and competent manner with a meal that deserves no less than 5 stars for the eyes and the palate. Everything fits here, repeat factor 100%.

Damage. I thought a lot before giving the rating I chose. Considering the average of this restaurant, I wanted to be sure of my choice. We came there in the evening, as a couple, during the week. To begin with, the welcome was very warm, kind, smiling and put us at ease. Our reserved table (reservation required) was waiting for us. Inside, the tables are spaced far enough apart so that we can be quiet without feeling on top of each other. This also explains the reduced number of place settings. Nothing to say about that. Unfortunately what is a shame is the speed of the service and the quality of the food. Let me explain. The service, although pleasant, smiling and all that, is horribly slow. The choice was made to serve the tables in their order of arrival. Order which will be followed throughout the evening. Unfortunately for us, we arrived last. So we waited about 1 hour to get our starter, stayed 45 minutes with our empty plates in front of us to get our dishes and another time that I stopped counting with our empty plates in front of us. Needless to say, once the scoop of ice cream was finished, we left without delay. Especially since in the meantime, it's impossible to catch the server. In fact, he comes into the room and takes care of the table which is the lucky one of the moment. He walks back and forth towards the kitchen at a rapid pace without looking around. When you have the misfortune of finding yourself in a corner, you are simply never seen... I almost went to ask directly at the bar but I abandoned the idea. Too bad, we would have appreciated ordering more drinks... Then the cooking, without being able to say that it is bad (we must not exaggerate), it was “normal”. A chicken skewer with drier chicken than the one I cook at home, a cider sauce for which I'm still looking for the cider, a shrimp spring roll with a shrimp in it... I can't take away the fact that the plates are very nicely presented but that stops there. A cuisine that I would therefore describe as good but nothing more. It's a shame because in view of the very high average and the comments, I expected a "WAW" when tasting the dishes. Perhaps the previous comments have set the bar too high? I think this restaurant can be pleasant with a large table, where you can order drinks without problems (being in a central position) and where the wait between dishes and orders is not felt too much. For 2 people, or worse, with a young child who needs to be looked after all this time, I do not recommend this restaurant. Damage.

Very good gastronomic moment with a very warm welcome from the Alsatian boss! Favorite for the pressure that comes from Saverne!

Very good restaurant - inventive menus and fresh produce! A special mention for the wine list which gives pride of place to Alsace wines!

Excellent establishment which is definitely worth the detour.... All the dishes are works of art... and perfect... without being overwhelmed by the bill. To recommend without any hesitation. Definitely worth some starred restaurants. On the 2nd visit, in June 2024, the establishment is still serious, and still to be recommended.... What happiness...
