Le Refuge du Phoenix sur Echevis

This just goes to show you shouldn't hesitate to leave a place where you're poorly received if it leads to a place like this. After being turned away because of the time at an establishment we won't name, what a brilliant idea it was to call the Phoenix Refuge! Despite the late hour, 1:40 pm, we were welcomed. Two very friendly gentlemen greeted and served us warmly. The view from our table was beautiful; there was even a spotting scope available, and the chamois were right there in the peephole! We had a wonderful meal, and even the chef's "goodbye" from his window, with a clearly sincere smile, was a pleasant touch.

We'd been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time, but making a reservation was chaotic, to say the least. We couldn't reach them by phone, and instead got an answering machine for a different number than the one listed on Google Maps! So we booked through their website, but the confirmation email was delayed, leaving us in limbo and preventing us from finding an alternative. Finally, we managed to get through to the restaurant, and everything was sorted out. Otherwise, we're glad we persevered. The welcome was very warm, and the restaurant overlooks the immense cliffs of the Vercors mountains. We had a very good meal, with a special mention for the Polish-style peasant soup, which was truly excellent. The service was surprisingly fast, even though the restaurant was full; many other establishments could learn a thing or two. A very good place to eat, and we'll be happy to return.

We returned, this time for the special Valentine's Day menu: smoked trout, duck confit with puff pastry gratin, a cheese platter, and a generous passion fruit ice cream dessert. It was excellent. Kudos to the chef! Service, food, ambiance: everything was perfect! I highly recommend coming here for the special menus; you'll enjoy a delicious meal every time 😊
