Le Socrate Rouen sur Rouen

Passing through Rouen, we found this brasserie for lunch. A delicious flank steak, homemade fries, and a superb gourmet coffee, all enjoyed on the terrace. Quick, simple, and efficient. I highly recommend it. Very welcoming.

A mixed evening spent at Socrate. It was already difficult to keep a straight face after that disappointing semi-final match, but it was even harder not to completely lose it when my food arrived 😮‍💨. I was eagerly anticipating my roasted Camembert and fries, only to be surprised to receive a melted Camembert so pale it would make Henry IV's white horse jealous. I'm convinced that this cheese would have been much more roasted if it had been left out on a table in the restaurant, as the place (which has neither air conditioning nor fans) is an oven. And let's not even talk about the fries, which were simply nonexistent (even though they were listed on the menu, remember). You should have seen my face, though, when I discovered that the fries had been replaced with ham! To top it all off, I don't eat pork, lol, and although I'm proud to be from Normandy, shoveling a Camembert down my throat like that (to stay within the lexicon of this cheese's pale hue) was definitely not in my plans 🫩 Luckily for me, the waiter, who was quite friendly by the way, offered to check in the kitchen to see if there were any fries left. Lucky me, there were 🙏 but apparently, I only deserved a tiny survival ration of five fries staring blankly at each other. Anyway, I paid €14 for a Camembert 🤡 Honorable mention, however, to the hard work of the waiters during this busy period.

We came for breakfast and were pleased to find the menu very good and reasonably priced. The place is quite cozy in the morning. It's a shame, however, that the welcome was cold; it didn't make us feel very inviting.

Excellent brasserie! The dishes are generous and delicious. The service is quick and always with a smile. And the prices are reasonable.

We both had the goats cheese salad - very generous and lovely dressing. Busy and buzzing for lunch. Quick service. Good value. Shared a small picket of rose.

Excellent daily special. Finally, decent fries in this brasserie compared to other brasseries or restaurants in Rouen. Very good fish and chips. Reasonable prices.
