Le Tomate & Basilic sur Aix-En-Provence

I first started buying take-away lasagne from Tomate et Basilic after we moved to Aix in 2025, and it quickly became one of my favorite easy meals. I especially appreciate that their eco-friendly paper containers can go in the microwave and even in the oven for reheating, since I much prefer to reheat lasagne in the oven. Recently, I needed a lasagne for a dinner party and didn’t really feel like making one myself, but I still wanted something that tasted genuinely homemade. Another shop offered to make a pan for 8 people by weight, but Tomate et Basilic had a fixed price, and it was less expensive than I expected — probably cheaper than buying all the ingredients myself. Even better, I was able to order the lasagne non cuite / à cuire — prepared but not yet baked — so I could put it in my own oven and get the top cheese browned exactly the way I like it, with no burnt edges. I picked it up on Saturday for a Sunday dinner party, and it was a huge success. Everyone thought I had made it myself, and when I admitted I had bought it, they were almost disappointed! Perhaps that was my French dinner party faux pas, but it tasted so authentically homemade that I couldn’t resist. A small tip: when baking it yourself, it may look like there is too much liquid when it first comes out of the oven. Let it rest for 15–20 minutes before serving so it thickens and cuts neatly. The lasagne was perfect, delicious, and incredibly convenient. Highly recommended.

I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with my salad. For my lunch break, I try out quite a few places in Aix, so I decided to try Le Tomate et Basilic. The welcome was very pleasant, with a smile—no complaints there. However, when it came time to eat my salad, I was very disappointed: it had no flavor whatsoever. The croutons were soggy instead of crispy, and the chicken was the same—it tasted like it had been there the day before. The pasta was okay, though. Luckily, the Caesar dressing added a bit of flavor. I wasn't a fan of the yogurt cake either. In short, I wouldn't really recommend the salads here. 🙂
