During a drive combining exploration of our beautiful Nord department with a relaxing break, we stopped at the Caves de l'Abbaye de Maroilles. After driving through the diverse landscapes of Flanders, the Avesnois region, and the edge of the magnificent Mormal Forest, this stop proved to be a delightful discovery. The concept is as original as it is welcoming: you enjoy your meal in a beautifully renovated old barn, where numerous antique objects evoke a nostalgic glimpse into rural life. The atmosphere is authentic and immediately invites conviviality. We opted for the set menu for two, and what a pleasant surprise it was to receive a generous platter of Maroilles tarts, more than enough for two people. The ingredients are of excellent quality and perfectly showcase this iconic cheese of our region. The meal continued with a delicious riboche (a type of sausage) accompanied by whipped cream with a wonderful fresh cream flavor and an absolutely decadent salted caramel. Finally, the sugar pie brought this moment to a delightful, sweet close. Before leaving, we also stopped by the shop to pick up some local specialties, including a Maroilles cheese tart, riboches (a type of sausage), and another sugar pie. Reheated on the barbecue that evening, they happily extended this wonderful culinary interlude. Between the unique setting, the quality of the products, the emphasis on local produce, and the friendliness of the entire team, we had a truly excellent time. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to all lovers of Northern French products and authentic experiences.

Nice place, good food but if I may say so, the bowl of green salad at €2.20 is a bit much.
