We had the pleasure of dining in a spacious and very pleasant room. The service was impeccable, the dishes varied and creative, and the chef extremely friendly. We highly recommend it.
My wife and I went to lunch at the Tables de la Fontaine this weekend.
We chose two menus for €55. What shocked us was the fact that the tables had no tablecloths. The waiter came to ask us if we wanted an aperitif. We had decided to have a bottle of champagne, which would be for the aperitif and the meal. The waiter brought us the bottle of champagne already opened and without an ice bucket, which we of course requested.
Our choice of menu was foie gras as a starter, followed by sweetbreads for the main course. Two identical menus. Desserts for my wife, a lemon tart, and for me, a tarte tatin.
When we were served the foie gras starter, we were very surprised because we usually eat at a lot of restaurants in Le Mans and the surrounding area.
The portion of foie gras was a cube measuring 2cm by 2cm with a ginger chip.
The main course: sweetbreads on a small escalope of pan-fried foie gras, no better.
But the highlight is the dessert: my tarte tatin: half an apple with vanilla ice cream, no pastry, just a little craquelin. My wife, the same thing: lemon tart, a scoop of lemon ice cream and some kind of single cream, nothing like a lemon tart.
I wonder what the Tatin Sisters would think.
As I've seen in the reviews, for the price and quantity, there are much better options elsewhere.
It's a shame, the owner is very friendly.
A huge thank you to chef Olivier DABET!
