L'Olivette sur Genos

I had dinner one evening with my wife at L'Olivette in Genos. I knew this restaurant, and we were very disappointed three years ago. Indeed, the dinner, between the fly ribbons and the wet dog, was an unforgettable experience. This place is an institution in Genos Loudenvielle; it's an important economic hub for the local population. This grocery store, bar, restaurant, pizzeria, and bread and local produce depot is a business worth the detour. The bread is excellent, by the way! It's rare that there isn't a regular here, sipping coffee and catching up with friends on a bar stool. The food served is locally sourced; I didn't try the pizzas. The starter salads were generously garnished and excellent. The meat is good, but we regretted the lack of lettuce leaves and the small portion of fries. The dessert is homemade. This blueberry flan/tart is excellent; the chef doesn't just fill a dry shortcrust pastry with a handful of blueberries. Here, the dessert is more elaborate, the blueberry flavor is more subtle, and I appreciate it just as much. Ignore the waiter's peculiar sense of humor; you have to play along. In short, if you want to experience the culture of the humble people of the Louron region, come have lunch at L'Olivette. You'll be welcomed like passing tourists, of course, but it's also our role to respect these places where real life comes alive, far from spas and 4-star hotels. 🫒

Superb place near the lake! Very friendly staff, simple but excellent cuisine, with delicious homemade fries. A real pleasure to find a place like this in this valley.
