A warm welcome awaited us at our table of eight. Here's a revised version, more refined while remaining authentic:
We shared a meal of couscous and tagines, and the least we can say is that the cuisine was exceptional. The meat was tender, flavorful, and of excellent quality, and the dishes, overall, were prepared with care and finesse. A warm and convivial atmosphere where you truly feel at ease.
The cakes and tea perfectly complemented the experience: you immediately sense that you're a cut above the rest. A serious establishment that does its work with passion. Highly recommended.

In the Haut-Marais district, where restaurants abound, each with its own distinct character, L’Étoile Berbère shines with a unique brilliance, that of a place that combines generosity, authenticity, and reasonable prices without ever compromising its integrity.
Formerly known as Couscous Nevers Café, this Kabyle restaurant saw its reputation soar thanks to notable appearances on social media in late 2024, thanks to the playful humor of McFly & Carlito alongside Melha Bedia and the discerning eye of Emmanuel Jary in the TV program "C’est Meilleur quand c’est bon" (It's Better When It's Good).
Those in the know, however, hadn't waited for this media attention to make it their regular haunt. Today, success sets its own pace: in this intimate and vibrant space, you have to plan ahead to snag a table.
At the helm is Ammar, originally from Tizi Ouzou, who breathes a genuine soul into the place, with its exposed beams typical of the neighborhood and understated decor punctuated by souvenirs from his homeland, while the small terrace offers a tranquil, sun-drenched respite.
Here, the journey invariably begins with mint tea, the secret of which seems jealously guarded, before giving way to the must-try dishes: couscous made with fine, airy, almost cloud-like semolina, served in a flavorful, subtly spiced vegetable broth. Twelve variations showcase this classic (from traditional versions with merguez sausage or beef, to a vegetarian option), not to mention a daily changing special, with a special mention for the weekend dish: fried Mediterranean sardines, accompanied by a garlic cream and homemade harissa, which are a highlight of Friday and Saturday lunches.
For me, the merguez kebab was remarkably well-balanced, with tender meat, perfectly cooked, and subtly seasoned.
Admittedly, the lively atmosphere of a full dining room can sometimes raise the volume, but it also contributes to the warm ambiance where people come seeking much more than just a meal: a vibrant, genuine, and profoundly flavorful interlude.

Rue des Vertus, dating back to 1546, was once notorious and thus bears this name ironically. The Berber Star restaurant is located at number 10 on this street, now completely renovated. It's a charming restaurant where you can enjoy couscous or tagine on the terrace in the summer, but the interior is also very interesting with its old beams and Moorish decor.
The welcome is very pleasant and the service efficient and quick. The traditional dishes are excellent and served in generous portions. The semolina is very fine and doesn't stick, which is becoming quite rare. The Moroccan and Algerian wines offer a nice variety at very reasonable prices. In this regard, the value for money is excellent.
A great place to spend lunch when visiting the Marais, even if you're still in the heart of Chinatown!
Don't leave the area without taking a look at one of the oldest houses in Paris, at 3 Rue Volta. It's right next door!
If you'd like something a bit older, head over to Rue de Montmorency, to the Nicolas Flamel tavern, or to Rue François Miron.

A very warm welcome, authentic decor – you feel like you're already traveling! It's a shame I didn't have potatoes in the chicken, olive, and lemon tagine, but otherwise everything was excellent. I recommend this restaurant, but remember to book in advance.

A restaurant that doesn't disappoint! Note: tagines are not served every day, especially on weekends.

A fantastic experience! Everything was delicious 😋 We were completely immersed in the Berber atmosphere (decor, tableware, etc.). We had the pleasure of dining on the terrace in the quiet little street. The Berber couscous was excellent, and we also tried the sardines! The oriental pastries were the perfect finishing touch to this delightful meal! €66 for two main courses, one dessert, four pastries, and a glass of wine ;) A minor point about the orange and cinnamon salad, which we found a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal... however, we highly recommend this restaurant!

One of the best couscous dishes I've ever had! And the staff is just lovely; it's a real pleasure to eat here.
Special mention for the chicken, which is absolutely delicious, and the mint tea, which is very, very good.

Excellent service, reflecting the warm hospitality of the Berber people.
The couscous was quite good.
The portions could have been larger (especially the meat) considering the price.
