Restaurant Chez Hortense sur Lege-Cap-Ferret

I've been coming here for several years and I've always been satisfied. The dishes are excellent and generous. The service is top-notch, and what can I say about the view! You never tire of it.

It's always a pleasure when we come to Cap Ferret, since we live in Guadeloupe, to have lunch at Hortense's and see Bernadette and the whole family again. We had a wonderful time in September and enjoyed a very good meal. Well done, keep it up!

The quality of the food needs improvement. How can you expect to offer good, fresh food with such a large menu for so many customers? It feels more like a casual, informal restaurant, an institution that has clearly seen better days.

To provide some context for this review, we live in Cap Ferret a good part of the year, and we dine at Chez Hortense several times a year. We're also well-travelled people and know a thing or two about good restaurants. As others have said, Chez Hortense is indeed an institution in Cap Ferret, and it is an institution for very good reasons! The food is exceptional, and despite being known as a seafood restaurant, the saucissons are fantastic, by the way! ;-) The fries, too, are perhaps the best I've ever had and are part of what makes Chez Hortense Chez Hortense! That being said, perhaps what truly makes Chez Hortense Chez Hortense is the people! The service is professional and efficient--it's a busy place, so it needs to be--but it's warm too. We're quickly given warm welcomes by the team, including the lovely woman who owns it, as soon as we enter the restaurant. Then, there is the atmosphere! When the weather is good and the roof is retracted, few things beat it. And regardless of the weather, the unobstructed view of the Dune du Pilat is truly magical! For all of these reasons, having been there many, many times, I would place Chez Hortense in my Top 5 restaurants worldwide! I can't wait for it to reopen in March!

Always a great pleasure to come back! Starting with sharing a Moules frites (mussels and fries), then a Turbo (a type of seafood dish), finishing with an Irish coffee. I'm in heaven!

In the most delightful setting of Cap Ferret, a true institution. The restaurant is always impeccably maintained, with that authentic charm so characteristic of the place. Lunchtime was very pleasant. The service was friendly, the mussels and red mullet were served in generous portions, we felt comfortable and will definitely return! When it's busier, it's less enjoyable, but out of season, it's more relaxed. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

A sure bet for decades. At Hortense's, the quality has never wavered—a true pleasure every time. The fish is exceptionally fresh, perfectly cooked, and served with homemade fries and eggplant caviar. A top-notch team, professional and welcoming, true to the spirit of the place. Simply a well-deserved institution.
