Restaurant Ecu De France sur Chennevieres-Sur-Marne

Our review of our dinner with a Box at Les Écus de France in Chennevières An ideally located establishment, with a magnificent and bucolic view of the Marne River, in a natural setting steeped in history. However, contrary to what the Box offered (starter, main course, cheese, and dessert of our choice from the menu), the establishment imposed a single set menu chosen by the chef. The presentation of the dishes was elegant and the food decent, but the service wasn't quite up to par: the staff did what they could, but lacked professionalism. The atmosphere also seemed rather peculiar to us. In short, we mostly felt like we were paying for the view… which, it must be said, is exceptional. Nevertheless, we had an excellent evening. One additional minor drawback: €1 per person for parking, the owner explaining that this amount would be paid to the town hall. While this may be justifiable, we found this practice a bit petty and unprofessional, especially after an already substantial restaurant bill. Beautiful view, nice evening, but a performance that did not totally convince us.

The place maintains its history with a truly old-world atmosphere. The dishes served are classic French cuisine. Good and well-presented. A lovely presentation. Worth a visit for both the setting and the quality of the food.

Clearly, the setting of L’Écu de France is magnificent and inviting. As for the food, I don't understand the previous negative reviews: from the amuse-bouches to the dessert, it was flawless. Everything was delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and there was a certain creativity in the dishes, which were nonetheless unpretentious. If I have one criticism, it's firstly the bread, which is not at all high quality: undercooked and under-proofed because it's industrially produced, a shame for a French restaurant that offers such good cheese (Comté). But also the service, where you can tell the waitstaff are doing their best but lack professionalism despite the setting. I have no problem with staff who are still being trained; moreover, our waiters/waitresses were very kind. But the gentleman who seemed to be the manager appeared discouraged at the idea of ​​helping them, which is a pity. In short, I recommend it.

We came last night and I highly recommend it! A timeless place, steeped in history, the terrace overlooking the Marne is incredibly peaceful and the view is beautiful. The set menu (starter and main course) was excellent, visually appealing, and made with quality ingredients. The sauce on the duck breast was divine, as was the foie gras. Everything was delicious. This place is a must-visit, a truly memorable experience. The service was impeccable. A wonderful discovery, we'll be back! :)))) Thank you!

Beautiful setting. However, the service was terrible. We had to ask for the menus, then for water an hour later, our order still hadn't been taken, and we had to ask for all our dishes until the very end. For the price, this is unacceptable. It's a shame because the setting is magnificent and the food was delicious. We won't be going back.

Beautiful setting. The food was good but not up to the standard expected of a fine dining restaurant. The servers were very attentive, numerous, and friendly. Unfortunately, the service was poorly organized, requiring guests to pour their own wine and water and ask for bread... The management was unfriendly, even towards the very kind and well-intentioned staff.

My opinion of this place is very mixed.... The setting is idyllic and steeped in history. But... there had to be a but.... The staff is made up of young trainees, which I think is great, but they're left to their own devices. The service was disorganized, and a bottle of white wine (over €50) was served HOT. A poor trainee told us that the "manager" said it was the glasses that were warm. I asked to speak to the manager, and the waiter begged us to accept the bottle and wait for it to cool down with ice cubes (difficult in 36-degree heat). The dishes were "cute" but lacked any particular flavor; I could have easily made them myself. A €1 "parking fee"—what an absurdity on a bill of over €200! And the requirement to order dessert at the same time as the main course clearly encourages you to say "no." A manager who doesn't understand that "young people don't spend more these days." I'm not "young," but I understand why I didn't order "more": the service left much to be desired, the "manager" treated us like idiots, the food was mediocre, and the prices (including parking) and desserts were inflexible and didn't entice us to order more. We would have gladly ordered a second bottle of wine, a digestif, a coffee, and even another dessert, but the "cash cow, no return" atmosphere completely discouraged us. What a shame! Such a beautiful place risks being lost with this disregard for its customers. One thing is certain: we won't be returning to a place where we could have become regulars!

Great team and owner! Located on the banks of the Marne. Perfect for families too. A great time with friends as well! The food is incredible! I'll definitely be back.
