Restaurant La Muraille de Chine sur Saumur

I stumbled upon this little shop, Great Wall, on my way to the train station. The Chinese-French owner was somewhat like the owner of the Japanese drama "Midnight Diner." She confidently declared, "If it's not on the menu, and you want any authentic Chinese food, as long as there are seasonal ingredients, I can make it." And sure enough, beyond the menu, I found some truly home-style braised eggplant and diced chicken in Saumur—so delicious! I was so engrossed in the meal that I forgot to take pictures. The stir-fried beef was also excellent; I did take a picture of that. During our chat, the owner recounted her many years living in France, expressing her deep emotions. In early 2020, she and her husband were visiting relatives in Wuhan. At a critical moment, the French government sent a special plane and a young, handsome military medical team to bring back all the expatriates, including the couple. Upon arrival in Paris, the Prime Minister greeted them at the airport, police escorted them, and a convoy of buses took them directly to a very nice resort for quarantine and observation. All their food, lodging, and medical care were free. Upon completion of the two-week program, special buses were arranged to pick up the overseas Chinese from their respective hometowns and take them back home. The Prime Minister also visited the resort again to see them off. Upon returning to her hometown of Saumur, neighbors immediately came to inquire about her well-being and offer assistance. This is why she and her husband have always deeply loved Saumur and run their business there.

Excellent restaurant, highly recommended! Besides the delicious, generous meal for a reasonable price, the owner was incredibly sweet and kind. She even showed us how they make Jiaozi!

Visited twice during our holiday and had 2 wonderful meals . Very tasty , good portions and good value.The air conditioning was also most welcome during the heat wave . There was a slight language barrier however that’s our issue as we were too lazy to learn French at school . The lady owner was really lovely and we really enjoyed both our visits . Hope to return next year

A very classic Asian restaurant, but the menu is extensive and the set menus, even in the evening, are decent. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The dishes are generous and refined, not greasy or overly spicy; you can tell everything is homemade, even the spring rolls, which is worth noting. An address I'll keep in mind for when I return to this city. Moreover, they have a wine list featuring regional wines at moderate prices and of good quality, which is a real plus for an Asian restaurant.

Passing through Saumur for the weekend, we had dinner at this restaurant. The food was excellent, homemade: the crispy shrimp spring rolls with spicy sauce were delicious! The aperitif and wine list perfectly reflects the region! The owner was incredibly attentive! We'll definitely be back!

The food was very good, but the dishes are a bit too expensive 👍🏼😅😅😅
