Restaurant Lou Marques sur Arles

An attempt at originality in the starter and main course, but disaster struck with dessert: the little cakes in the "café gourmand" were stale! Yuck! Like the other tables, we left them after the first bite.

We were very pleased by the restaurant, the food, and service. The price for the 55euro 4 course meal was excellent. The atmosphere was upscale and quiet. The quality was very high, similar to french haute cuisine. The decor is very Arles-based, with the queens of the city adorning ancient walls of the dining room. I highly recommend it!

Excellent meal made with only fresh ingredients. €35 for the set menu (starter, main course, dessert) is really worth it considering the quality. Very friendly waiters. We'll be back.

We had a wonderful evening. The Arlesian menu offers unbeatable value, and the à la carte dishes are served in generous portions, especially the foie gras and langoustines. This restaurant is clearly not just for hotel guests who prefer to stay on the premises: it's well worth a visit. However, the wine list doesn't live up to the quality of the food and lacks interest.

We had a wonderful evening. The menu is excellent, tailored to everyone's tastes, with an interesting wine list, thoughtful presentations, and sophisticated flavor combinations. The service was also pleasant in a place with a wonderful story to tell. We enjoyed this restaurant!

Despite the friendly, cheerful, and efficient service, we weren't completely won over by our experience at Lou Marques. The Christian Lacroix decor (or style) is showing signs of aging, the fabric colors are fading, the carpet and curtains lack freshness, the manor-style wall lights don't help, and we could gladly do without the music piped in through the poorly dusted speakers. However, the pretty paneling, on which interesting portraits of Arles queens hang chronologically, comes to the rescue. In terms of cuisine, the menu was mouthwatering, but the execution disappointed due to a lack of sophistication and talent. From the presentation to the execution and balance of ingredients, the harmony is lacking, even though we imagine that with a fresh start, anything would be possible. The dessert slightly raised the bar, without much enthusiasm. As for the wine cellar, the experience of opening wines was painful: a low-end Sauterne that was oxidized in my opinion, and a red wine from the Alpilles (we had to give the local terroir a chance) that I wouldn't even use in a sauce gave us a headache for the entire evening. A shame to serve such poor wine. A great disappointment, then, but with the hope that a new lease on life might one day revive this place with potential.
