The waiters were very nice but the food was very average, at least the teriyaki pasta we ordered and the gyozas were stiff... no sauce or anything on top.

The price is quite affordable since it's in the city center, but the sushi is rather basic. It all depends a bit on what you choose; I should mention that you should double-check before ordering that it's the one you ordered, as they sometimes make mistakes with the order. The place itself is quite comfortable since it's spacious, and the service from the waiters is pretty standard.

Approaching this charming little shop in downtown Bayonne, one almost hears the sacred melody of Kimi Ga Yo. Stepping through the heavy doors of this establishment, as ancient as the Middle Kingdom itself, only one word comes to mind: Shinjin datsuraku, the term Dogen Zenji (1200-1253) used to describe the state he felt after intensive Zen practice under the guidance of his Chinese master Nyojo (1163-1228) on Mount Tendo in China. Its literal meaning is "to shed the body and mind." While the body and mind are freed from all tension after a delightful bowl of marinated chirashi or a dozen California rolls—like so many gateways to happiness—the wallet remains weighed down by hard cash, thanks in no small part to the carefully crafted pricing policy of the owners. And what can be said about the welcome? A magnificent blend of yin and yang, French hospitality, and Japanese hospitality, a demonstration by example that 1+1=3. In short, Sushi Shop Bayonne has embraced the maxim of the great Confucius: "The superior man is modest in his words, but excels in his actions." Welcome to a superior sushi experience.
