Tamatebako Café sur Bordeaux

As a big fan of specialty coffee, I was in Bordeaux last weekend and took the opportunity to check out this place, but it was a disappointing experience. On paper, it all looked promising: a very attractive menu with coffees and teas that seemed to be of high quality. You could tell there was real potential and an interesting selection. Unfortunately, several things spoiled the experience. First, the place itself gave a rather cluttered impression, especially with boxes visible at the back of the shop. For an establishment that offers drinks at relatively high prices (around €9 for 400 ml of tea), you expect a more refined setting. Second, and this is the most important point for me: the coffee served didn't meet the standards of specialty coffee. I ordered a double espresso, which should normally be around 36 ml, and I ended up with a much fuller cup, closer to a lungo. This gives the impression that the basics aren't being followed. Finally, the menu lacks essential information: no details on the aromas or profiles of the coffees offered. Yet, this is precisely what makes specialty coffee and the tasting experience so appealing. In short, this is a place that could be excellent given its selection, but as it stands, it doesn't live up to its promise.

Simply the best coffee in Bordeaux! A huge variety of coffees, excellent pastries, and lovely staff. Note that, unlike some other cafes, it's not a workspace. The menu could perhaps be redesigned as it's not very user-friendly; but I'm just nitpicking.

Here you'll find the best hot chocolates in Bordeaux. Available in a multitude of varieties; chocolates made with different origins and flavors, or simply flavored. Delicious, high-quality, and comforting; that's everything you could hope for in a truly great hot chocolate. Their price is therefore justified. The pastries are just as excellent.

I came to this place to work (with my laptop) for about an hour. Big mistake, because this place doesn't allow laptops, tablets, or even small work meetings with colleagues. I'd already ordered, what a shame. Not having a book with me, I found myself slightly at a loss. Only art collection catalogs were available, not even the good old newspaper they used to offer in cafes! 🤨 So, I was left with meditation or prayer. There is a small warning on the door outside, but I hadn't seen it because it's off-center from the menus and other information. So, I had to wait. Alone. Yes, alone, because I was alone, while the surrounding tea rooms were overflowing with people. I confess I don't quite understand the concept ⁉ As for the Liège coffee I ordered, it was simply served in a glass. At that price, I expected a nice mug with a good handle to avoid burning myself and getting my fingers dirty with spills. Finally, I'm posting this little comment to warn you: - If you're alone, bring a newspaper or a book. - If you're with friends, be careful that your conversations don't turn into a business meeting. In short, in any case, go in knowing what to expect!

Very professional Japanese tea shop. I tried yame-cha and it was awesome.

We had a wonderful time and appreciated the quality of the products: a very good cake and a delicious hot chocolate. Well done to this shopkeeper, and we will gladly return.

I went to Tamatebako cafe with a friend. The place is very pleasant and all the pastries look tempting. However, the bill is very steep; 15 euros for a small cup of tea and a slice of cake seems really excessive!

A must-visit tea house for hot chocolate aficionados! Six different cocoa beans and a total of ten hot chocolate variations! I've already tried two and I'm determined to try everything on the menu before the end of winter 👌😍 Be aware that there can sometimes be a wait; in this Japanese-inspired setting, you have to accept that time stands still! But the wait is well worth it!

Nice place on a lovely shopping street. Wide selection of teas. Delicious cakes. Friendly staff, but quickly overwhelmed. One thing to improve: a few more smiles.
