I found a “lemon” beer that I like at The Blarney Stone pub in Bordeaux! Yes, I was drinking beer in Bordeaux! Haha
The server was very nice and thoughtful in his suggestions. This pub is basically across the street from the old bell. So, wafter viewing the bell (and Victor Hugo’s falling car, half a block down the street) stop in here for a pint or two! There is both inside and outside seating.

My historic pub. Central, friendly waiters, decent food. Interesting happy hour. Beers not given, but same price as elsewhere. Pleasant terrace in summer. And then you won't miss any rugby or even football matches. Giant screen but without sound which allows others to chat. I looooooooove

Just steps from Place Gambetta, The Blarney Stone offers a warm immersion in the spirit of Irish pubs, free from caricatures and forced folklore. From the very beginning, you sense that you're entering a place that has successfully combined authenticity and hospitality, with that sincerity sometimes lacking in facade pubs.
Inside, wood reigns supreme, the benches welcome groups and solo guests alike, and the walls tell the story of a culture of relaxed conviviality. The lighting is soft, the spaces well-designed: you feel comfortable, without ever feeling cramped.
At the bar, the beer selection is generous: well-drawn Guinness, true-to-life Kilkenny, and a range of drafts and bottles to satisfy both classic hop lovers and the curious. The whiskey menu is also worth a detour for more robust palates. But the real draw is the food offerings, far superior to those found in many pubs. Hearty, homemade dishes, ranging from tasty burgers to crispy fish and chips, generous salads, and inspired daily specials. It's simple, but perfect—pub food that doesn't just nourish, but heals.
The atmosphere evolves over the hours: calm and subdued at lunchtime, lively but always respectful in the evening. On match nights, the atmosphere escalates, but without losing that Irish bonhomie where people clink glasses as much as they chat.
The Blarney Stone is a corner of Ireland firmly rooted in the heart of Bordeaux, where people come as much to eat as to socialize. A place true to its name: warm, solid, and a little chatty—but just the right amount.

A gem! I'm a breastfeeding woman and I was very well received 😊 And the prices defy all competition!

The pub culture in Bordeaux surprised me. Many places seem to skew younger. This is a laid-back bar. Brad, behind the bar, is multilingual. He speaks English and French, and knows how to help you have a good time.
