Toritcho sur Paris

There aren't many truly authentic Japanese restaurants left in Paris, and Toritcho is one of them. The raw fish is really, really good (hint: bad restaurants serve you ice-cold fish to mask the lack of flavor. Not Toritcho...).

A very good traditional Japanese restaurant that makes excellent tempura/sushi and charcoal-grilled skewers. Each specialty has its own chef, and each chef is highly specialized. Prices are a bit high, but the food is very good. The wait for the skewers is a little long, and the restaurant is quite noisy.

Having lived in Japan, I can state this is very authentic sushi restaurant (sushi-ya). High quality. However please note: the sushi is prepared to order; so especially soon after opening time you can expect to wait a while. Also good sushi can't be cheap or served in big portions at a low price. Nevertheless, Toritcho is good value given the high quality of their sushi offerings.

Back from Japan, we wanted to find some of the food we were eating there, and this restaurant was perfect for that! The chefs are Japanese, as is the staff. The raw fish was excellent, and the tempura with shrimp and vegetables was a real treat!

Authentic Japanese restaurant, the entire team is Japanese. The older chefs prepare the sushi right in front of you. Even the waitresses are Japanese and have a little trouble with French, so it's best to speak English if you have any questions. Special mention for the sea bass, scallop, and eel sushi; the rice was also good. The appetizers are tiny, so it's best to order one per person if needed. Everything we ordered was good except for the salmon, which was just okay, and the red bean paste dessert (way too sweet, and you can tell it came from a can... don't order dessert here, it's not worth it. For a Friday night, the restaurant was quite empty, so I don't think you needed a reservation. They don't have a website or online booking system; it's only by phone.

A truly excellent sushi restaurant, a real "Japanese" place in the neighborhood, a welcome change from all the imitations, especially since it's not too expensive, particularly at lunchtime. The sushi melts in your mouth, special mention to the excellent Maguro tuna! Definitely worth trying; it's nothing like the other fake Japanese restaurants around here. Furthermore, the service was very good; our two waitresses were very helpful and smiling. It wasn't easy to make myself understood with one of the waitresses who spoke little French, but that's part of the experience, and I got to practice my Japanese. I highly recommend it; it's going to become my go-to sushi spot in the area. I went twice in less than a week. Enjoy!

Ronald Ivauch, a food critic since 1973 and a former Michelin Guide contributor who awarded stars to great restaurants and even removed some! Toritcho is, for me, one of the best authentic Japanese restaurants in Paris, and what's more, it's not that expensive compared to its rip-off counterparts. I particularly appreciate the freshness of their fish and their consistently excellent variety. A special mention for the negitoro (dried fish), which have a unique flavor. As my great-grandfather would say: when I go there, I'm on cloud nine, and I'm not talking about my cane! All joking aside, I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant. I would add, however, that one of your waiters could have the courtesy to smile; your waitresses, on the other hand, are very pleasant. Thank you again, I'll be back to stuff myself silly.

Excellent Japanese restaurant with authentic Japanese chefs. The restaurant has been around for 35 years. Friendly atmosphere, fast service, and high-quality sushi.
