Ty Vorn sur Rennes

Excellent sandwiches, galettes and crepes, eat in or take away, quality products. Delicious desserts and pastries.

One person at the till and rushed servers piling up orders nearby. Assembly line work, and once on the train I discover there's been a mistake with part of my order. Anyway... The products (Breton cake, kouign amann) aren't great. Little flavor and a texture far from the standards usually offered by Breton cuisine. I wanted to try it, it's just okay, I won't be back. A shame.

The galettes and crêpes were good and well-filled.

Expensive, but it's in a train station. Coffee and pastry combo for €4. The pain au chocolat was good.

Perfect for grabbing a bite before catching the train. The ham and butter sandwich with buckwheat flour is a banger!

The cookie (€3.40) and flan (€3.70) were excellent. The organic grapefruit juice was also delicious (€4.70). We were looking for mini kouign-amann to take home as a gift, and they sell miniature ones in packs of 5 (€11.50), very handy between trains. It's not cheap, but prices are always very high at the station.

Everything was delicious. I hastily bought some bread and quiche during my trip. I bought them to fill my stomach, but they were so delicious that I gasped in surprise on the TGV train.

Unfortunately, this is a chain whose product quality isn't impeccable... but above all, the prices are exorbitant! €3.90 for six measly little cream puffs that were a bit heavy, lacking crispness, and not very good, and €4 or €5 for brownies that were far too sweet...

Don't let the location fool you; this bakery is among my favorites in France. The pastries in the morning are delicious, and the sandwiches are really good. I've been passing through Rennes train station for over three years now, which I hate, but I'm still happy because it means I can pop in. I highly recommend it. (It's obviously quite expensive, but the location probably doesn't help. However, considering the quality, I'll overlook that.)
