The best Japanese restaurant I know. Everything is extremely delicate, refined, and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it.

Excellent food, service needs improvement. They should be a little nicer and more pleasant. But the food is excellent and the fish is really delicious.

Yen is a small shop in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, tucked away in a side alley next to the Café de Flore. I visited on a Friday evening and was surprised by how busy it was. I didn't make a reservation, but the indoor seating was completely full, forcing me to sit outside. The outdoor seating was just as nice as the indoor seating, and the tableware was the standard you'd expect from a fine Japanese restaurant. Like other small Japanese restaurants in Paris, Yen offers a wide variety of dishes, likely catering to those who want to savor classic Japanese dishes all in one place. I chose the signature soba noodles and, as recommended, ordered the tempura combo. Later, I realized this was a major mistake. Don't get me wrong, every aspect of Yen's soba and tempura combo was above average. Sometimes, something is valuable simply for its existence. The tempura wasn't the only thing; the soba noodles, along with the mustard greens, grated daikon radish, and soy sauce, delivered a lingering, quintessential Japanese soba flavor. Savoring this flavor on the streets of Paris is a real treat in itself, so why was it such a mistake? It was mainly because I had higher expectations for the soba itself. Yen has other options on the menu that are more refined (and, of course, more expensive) with a wheaty aroma and texture that's a step above the tempura combo. I'll definitely try them again if I have the chance. The additional bean paste I ordered was refreshingly cool, and I was a bit surprised upon tasting it. The flavor was rich yet refreshing. Although it was just a small dish, it left a lasting impression.
Recommended Japanese restaurants to consider in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

We went there for a birthday celebration and it was a wonderful experience. You're greeted by a team that must be exclusively Japanese, at least. You immediately feel transported to a Japanese atmosphere thanks to the warm welcome and the decor.
The atmosphere is quite cozy; it's not very noisy even when the room is full; you really feel intimate.
The dishes are exceptional, especially the sashimi assortments and the fried vegetable and shrimp assortments. I recommend going several times to taste a little of everything; you can tell everything has been carefully prepared, and for the price, you'll get exceptional quality products.

[EN (1st arrondissement, Paris)]
A Parisian Japanese restaurant where you can experience the delicate flavors of Japan.
Opened in 2000, this restaurant is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Many people find themselves yearning for Japanese food when they eat foreign cuisine every day, even for just a few days while traveling.
This restaurant would be delicious even if it were just a regular restaurant in Japan.
If you're craving authentic Japanese cuisine in Paris, this is the place to go.
Due to its popularity, reservations are recommended.
