Domaine des Etangs

14/09/2024: What a dream!
We stayed at the Domaine with our dog for four nights and had a perfectly tranquil. The property itself consists of a chateau and a host of cottages set amongst 1500 acres of rolling hills, lakes, and pasture (home to a host of stunning Limousin cattle).
We loved our cottage, the Centaure, which featured two bedrooms, a wood burning fireplace (which is cleaned and refilled by an onsite fireplace technician, daily), a master bath with a soaking tub, a full kitchen, two living rooms, and a lovely outdoor area setup by the lakeside. The Domaine also provides a Citroen EV for guests to zip around the property and explore which was easy to use and convenient given the size of the property.
In terms of food, the Domaine has one restaurant serving an a la carte menu focused on local ingredients. We were a bit concerned on arrival that we hadn't made any dinner plans for our stay, but this turned out to be a non-issue - we ate at the restaurant three nights and enjoyed each evening. Of particular note was the quality of the deserts (outstanding) - hats off to the pastry chef. The breakfast team, as well as the waiters for dinner, were friendly and enhanced the experience.
What really made the experience was the genuine, down-to-earth warmth of the Domaine team - Vera and Veronica at the front couldn't have done more to ensure a comfortable stay - Veronica even went so far as to offer to put air in our car tire when she noticed the warning light was on. Everyone from the fireplace technicians to the spa team were genuine, friendly, and professional without pretense. Anything that we requested, from room service to firewood, was provided quickly.
This is a great spot to relax, slow down, and disconnect from the modern world - we'll be back.
22/08/2024: This is a true gem and paradise tucked away in France, offering something for everyone, regardless of age. Our toddler absolutely loved everything, from the fishing and playroom to the indoor and outdoor pools. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our whole family felt welcome and cared for. Staying in the cottages was a real treat, allowing us to cook our own meals and enjoy backyard BBQs.
The only area that could use some improvement is the restaurant and dinner service. While the hotel is of a high calibre, we were a bit disappointed with the service and quality of the food. However, management was very gracious in waiving the dinner fee in an effort to make up for the experience. We ultimately chose not to return for dinner and would recommend setting expectations accordingly if you do decide to dine in.
Breakfast, although lovely, was priced at $32, with an additional charge of $5-8 for a single poached egg, which felt a bit steep considering the limited selection. While the idea was to evoke a home kitchen feel, we found it a little overpriced for what was offered. That being said, we’d happily return and were fortunate to have the option of preparing our own meals.
