25/08/2024: La Chope, a once emblematic brasserie of the district, seems to have lost everything that made it charming and authentic. From the outside, the restaurant could almost fool the uninitiated with its facade that seems to promise a classic Parisian ambiance, but don't let appearances fool you. What lies behind these windows is a disappointment across the board. Service: Let's start with the service, which has become as cold as the looks of the waiters who welcome you. Barely installed, you are already assailed by a palpable indifference. It is obvious that the staff are more concerned about other things than the customers they serve. Waiting more than twenty minutes to order when the room is half empty says a lot about their sense of priorities. You'll have plenty of time to look around during this wait, but unfortunately, there isn't much pleasant to see. Food: If you're hoping that food makes up for the lack of human warmth, think again. The dishes offered are distressingly banal. The menus, proudly displayed outside, seem attractive at first glance, but once the plate is in front of you, it's a whole different story. The portions are minimalist, without any effort in presentation, and the taste is, to put it kindly, disappointing. You could almost think that the chef is cooking reluctantly. The ingredients are basic, and everything is sorely lacking in flavor. For an establishment that charges rather high prices, we have the right to expect much more than this soulless service. Setting and atmosphere: The setting is not better. Looking at the terrace, we immediately see that it has lost all of its former appeal. The furniture is old, the chairs are uncomfortable, and the layout seems to have been designed to maximize the number of seats to the detriment of any aesthetic or practical considerations. The whole thing gives an impression of clutter and neglect. The tables are crowded together, giving you the impression of being in a rush even outside of peak hours. The Parisian charm that one expects to find in this kind of place has been totally sacrificed on the altar of profitability. Drinks menu: And what about the drinks menu? In the past, La Chope stood out for its interesting selection of beers and wines. Today, the choice has been reduced to a handful of standard options, without originality or effort to renew. The cocktails, when they are not tasteless, are prepared without any passion. The bartender barely seems interested in what he's doing, and it shows in the glass. Value for money: Considering the overall experience, the value for money is nothing short of disastrous. The prices are worthy of a high-end brasserie, but the quality is that of a neighborhood bistro without ambition. We leave there with the impression of having been cheated, such is the gap between what is promised and what is actually served. In conclusion, La Chope has become a shadow of itself. Unless you have a taste for disappointing experiences, I recommend you move on. The area is full of other, much better options where your money and time will be much better spent. It is sad to see an establishment with so much potential indulge in such mediocrity, but it seems that the current management has lost all desire to revive this place which deserves much better.

24/08/2024: Honestly great, I hadn't been back there for ages (not sure if it's the same owners!) and I loved it. Generous burger with delicious meat (which could have benefited from being a little hotter) and floating island for dessert: a marvel.

08/08/2024: Very average, nothing exceptional, the waiters could at least be friendly, and the bathroom lacked soap to wash your hands.
