11/09/2026: A very friendly establishment, easy parking nearby in the church square, quick and pleasant welcome and service, authentic cuisine. I recommend it without hesitation.

31/08/2026: We came to Le Campagnard in Lillers hoping to have a good time, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. To start, a Coke cost €3.50, which I already find quite excessive for a small restaurant of this type. (I'd understand on the coast…) For my starter, I had the smoked salmon for €12. It was good, no complaints about the taste, but the portion was really disappointing, especially compared to my friend's plate, which had significantly more salmon for the same price. Then, I ordered the Welsh rarebit, and that was a huge disappointment. The meat, which was supposed to be rare, was well-cooked, and the texture was particularly bad, to the point of feeling like chewing gum. The fries also seemed to have been reheated, with some pieces appearing to have ended up in the frying oil. After that, I didn't even have dessert. Regarding the service, the experience was unfortunately no better with the first waitress. I simply asked for a bone marrow: raised eyebrows, sighs, and an unpleasant attitude. If offering an item from the menu is so bothersome when a customer requests it, they might as well not put it on the menu at all. She then returned to tell us, laughing, that they were out of it after all. I found this attitude particularly haughty and unprofessional. Fortunately, the waiter who took over was much more pleasant: smiling, friendly, and able to joke with us despite the situation. He even acknowledged the problem with the Welsh rarebit himself, saying, after seeing it, that he would choke if he had to eat it. After learning about the issues we encountered, he made a gesture of goodwill by removing the three Cokes from our bill. I therefore acknowledge the gesture of goodwill and the attitude of the second waiter, which clearly raised the bar somewhat. Unfortunately, this isn't enough to make up for the quality of the food, the generous portions, and especially the service we received. I do not recommend this establishment and I will not be returning.
