Abbaye du Thoronet sur Le Thoronet

A magnificent place steeped in history. The abbey, nearly 900 years old, is remarkably well-preserved in some areas. A true monastic setting, typical of the 12th century: very austere, with little light... The architecture is breathtaking: arches, keystones, fountains, and more. All this while knowing that it was the monks who built this place. A must-see. It's a shame that the entire site isn't accessible. A visit lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour.

A really beautiful place with a lovely history!

Visited with a 5-year-old and a 5-month-old baby. The site is accessible with a stroller, but you'll need to carry it occasionally. A truly beautiful and breathtaking place to visit (the church is a special mention).

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful visit! Wonderful visit! I loved the place, its history, and the atmosphere. Everything is very well organized: a warm welcome, a perfectly marked route, and explanations that are truly accessible to everyone. I highly recommend getting the audio guide for just €4 extra. We got one for two people, and it was perfect! The explanations are simple, engaging, and allow you to discover and understand the history of the abbey without needing any prior knowledge. A truly wonderful discovery, a pleasant and enriching visit. I highly recommend it!

An exceptional place. A must-see.

A well-preserved complex. The parking lot is opposite, on the other side of the road. Those who prefer hiking can park in the village and then walk up to the abbey. The German-language flyer includes a map and the most basic information. The audio guide is more worthwhile if you want to know a bit more. Unfortunately, the staff seem very curt and uninterested in foreigners. But the abbey itself was very beautiful.

I didn't give it 5 stars because of the €14 price for the visit + audio guide and the lack of a guided tour. The extreme heat can't be a perpetual excuse; the monks were always there, through thick and thin! Give them some credit! 🤨
