Auberge Le Petit Mas sur Issoire

We stumbled upon this inn while looking for a restaurant during our visit to Issoire. Everything is homemade, and the portions are incredibly generous. We loved the truffade (a potato and cheese dish) and the stuffed cabbage. Even the ice cream is homemade. Don't miss the chance to stop here and sample the Auvergne specialties while in Issoire. Be warned, this place seems very popular, as the restaurant was packed on a Wednesday evening, so be sure to arrive early or make a reservation.

On our way back from vacation, we called on Sunday, August 16th to make a reservation for 2 adults, 1 teenager, and 1 three-year-old. We called at 1:00 PM for a 1:15 PM arrival. The phone reception was very friendly, with the person informing us that only one high table with bar stools was available. A booster seat was offered for our child, our order was taken quite quickly, and the service was very fast, despite us ordering three different dishes (including a request for a different side dish for my wife 😅). They offered craft beer, typical dishes, and excellent local wine (Boudes). The staff was very friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable. What more can I say? Absolutely perfect! 👍👍👍

UPDATE: We repeated the experience this weekend. With school holidays almost over, we found ourselves in a much more pleasant setting. The service was excellent! Quick and friendly this time! The quality of the food was just as good as ever; we thoroughly enjoyed it. We even had dessert this time! I'm changing my review and adding a star ⭐️ The setting is really nice. We had a reservation for 8 pm and arrived at 7:45 pm. We were quickly seated and thought the evening was off to a good start. Our aperitif order was taken quickly… then 5, 10, 15 minutes passed. In the meantime, our main course order was already being taken, but the aperitifs were still on their way. They finally arrived after about 30 minutes. Then came a real test of patience. Several tables that arrived after us were served before us, which was a little puzzling. The best moment was when, after more than an hour's wait, a waiter came to offer us the dessert menu. That was nice of him, but we still hadn't received our main courses. 😂 Finally, the plates arrived after 9 pm. Luckily, they were piping hot and, above all, excellent: the truffade and the duck breast were truly delicious, no complaints about the food. However, we decided to skip dessert. I was a little worried they'd offer me the breakfast menu before it arrived. 😅 In short, the food is worth the trip, but the service could definitely be better organized.

Just as good as it was 7 years ago! Top-notch cuisine! The only downside is that the interior is fantastic, but outside under the white tarp it's truly unbearable in 30-degree heat without a fan. It's a shame, which is why I'm taking off a star. We'll still come back for the frog legs and calf's head, a real treat!

The food was very good. However, we've always brought our dogs, but this time they refused them! We had to lock them in our car! We won't be back; they were lucky we were with friends, otherwise we would have left!

We returned to this restaurant, which we had visited last year... our family had recommended it. The dishes are still as generous and excellent as ever. The service is top-notch, and the staff is very brave to work in this heat. It's a place worth trying if you're near Issoire.
