Since a mishap in Vienna, I hadn't ventured into unfamiliar cities or into too many new establishments. Too scarred by the experience, wounded by a lifetime of disappointments, I hadn't posted many reviews.
Today, mistreated as usual by the SNCF (French National Railways), stuck at the station for over an hour in this city I'd only ever seen through the barrier of a window, sheltered from any self-reflection, protected by my narrow-mindedness, speeding along without even truly considering it—a shameful reminder now, a vestige of past injustice and contempt, but I assure you, it's over—I decided to live like a man: I took the plunge. A plunge that finally allowed me to cross the station platform, then the river, and plunge into the heart of Villefranche.
True to my intuition, which tells me that you don't truly know a city until you've experienced every last kebab, it was to Amaya's Kebab Burger & Tacos that my hesitant, fragile, vulnerable steps, yet filled with a new lease on life, even a thirst for renewal, led me.
The decor is simple, minimalist, and uncluttered: there's no attempt at excess, nothing to hide. Convincing isn't achieved through artifice, but through the finesse of the art, the cuisine, and the warmth of the heart. And that's precisely what I found here.
A television plays a wildlife documentary in the background: Tanzanian wildebeest, devoured by crocodiles, whets your appetite. The chef, for his part, opens his heart to you. Warm and welcoming, he puts you at ease, showing genuine interest in your life without the slightest hint of intrusiveness. He asks about your preferences… A true connoisseur of his craft, he's always ready to help you with your choices.
The menu is extensive and tasteful: I opted for a veggie burger with harissa sauce, a drink, and fries. All for €9. The food is prepared right before your eyes, behind the counter, and the fries are perfectly seasoned and lightly salted. After a brief discussion about the spiciness of the sauces and the different spice preferences in various countries (North Africa, China, Europe), the chef offered me two free sauces.
For the price, considering the taste, the quantity, and above all, the sheer charm of the chef, it's unbeatable. Perhaps there's enough space in this city for three Kebab/Taco places, but in my heart, that spot is already taken.
Never mind the cathedral, never mind the town center (splendid and certainly worth a visit), I'll be back: for the chef, for this establishment.
I can't recommend it highly enough. My sincerest thanks to the chef, who, despite a trip prompted by a major inconvenience (I remind you of the railway incompetence that brought me here), managed to create an unforgettable experience. With a joyful heart, a full stomach, and a mind enriched by lasting memories, I return to wait for my train. No need to go abroad: forget Vienna, the beautiful countryside, just book a ticket to Villefranche.

I discovered it at the beginning of December, and now I go every week.
Whether it's kebab, tacos, or burgers, everything is delicious, especially for the price!
Plus, the friendliness and kindness of the owners mean I'm never disappointed.
I highly recommend it, and a big thank you to them! 😊
