Bistrot du Palais sur Chambery

Very good sorbets. The way Bistrot du Palais operates has become incomprehensible, as it keeps its old main entrance closed, forcing customers to take a long detour inside to reach tables facing Rue Favre. This company, which also manages Café de l'Horloge and O'Cardinal, seems to be focusing solely on a decent decor and location. Since the manager is almost never there, and avoids customers when she is, patrons only deal with servers who take no responsibility and, with a few exceptions, don't stay long.

This bistro, located opposite the courthouse and next to the Savoy Museum, was a delightful discovery. We were offered a Savoyard dish with a good white wine from Savoy. You can eat on the terrace or inside. The decor is tasteful and the service very pleasant.

The meal was very good, it's a shame there was a billing error and I only noticed it just now when I got home... I was charged €4.50 for a Suze when that aperitif wasn't for my table... The error was refunded by the Bistrot du Palais!

For dinner, you should aim for a time after 9 pm for the kitchen to open. It's a shame not to know this beforehand. Apart from that, the food is good quality, except perhaps for the fries. But otherwise, the staff is courteous and efficient.

Not too crowded at lunchtime, nice and quiet. A shame about the "café gourmand" (gourmet coffee), it was all too sweet, and the fries were more like small pieces. What a pity!

Absolutely perfect, in a lovely sunny spot. My first day there was great, and the waitress was very friendly. The beef tartare was really good.
