Good but nothing more, very expensive on the other hand

A cozy atmosphere for a bistro that takes on the essentials with a personality... The beef tartare is a must.

We knew about Café Max and already knew that we were going to have quality, traditional cuisine favoring short circuits. We appreciated having the choice between the essentials and the slate of the day. As a starter we had the mimosa eggs (divine) the asparagus (too little on the plate for our taste. But when it's good we want more!) the salmon gravlax, very good but at 24€, maybe a A little expensive for an entry. For dishes: perfectly cooked veal kidneys and cod. Here too, the cooking was perfect and the vegetables were very well seasoned with a light buttery “broth”, which made this dish delicious while remaining light. The disappointment was in the dessert, the succulent hazelnut caramel praline was visually not great but succulent as the name suggests. The big miss and what caused the ultimate frustration was the profiterole. My favorite dessert which was served with magnificent chocolate but the cabbage was a complete failure., hard as a rock. Ultra Dry Impossible to tell me... He was more than stale and I wonder how the person who did the training let that go... a profiterole without cabbage is no longer a profiterole but a vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. For the rest, the decor is superb, a real gem, retro and warm. The tables are pushed together and that doesn't bother me. It will come from the atmosphere of the place The service was attentive The bread is excellent. I would happily return. The price is high but it corresponds to the category of this restaurant.

Very good, cozy atmosphere, a restaurant full of history. Classics of French gastronomy: snout, pig's ears, kidneys are perfect. The crepes flambéed on the bar and the rum baba bigger than a mountain, everything is a delight. A very nice wine list and impeccable, friendly service: Café Max is a great address that should be kept secret... Thank you, we will come back!
