Courte Paille sur Beaune

Very convenient for a quick lunch at a low price, and the products are quite good.

The Courte Paille restaurant has reopened under the name La Côte et la Flamme. It's the same restaurant, same furniture, very run-down (and stained). Despite the friendly and very helpful staff, you get the impression that they're doing their best, unfortunately resulting in a wait between courses. For a three-course meal (starter, main, and dessert) at €22.90, we had pork rillettes (nobody makes their own rillettes these days, so it came straight from the store) and eggs mayonnaise in their simplest form (cut in half with a "drop" of mayo on top). These eggs were either overcooked or a bit old; in any case, they were rubbery. For the main course, we were asked how we wanted our cut cooked (rare or blue). What arrived was a steak as thin as a slice of ham and, of course, overcooked. Moreover, the taste was almost sickening (grilled meat, and I get the impression the grill is never cleaned between customers; the result is that the flavors blend with the meats of previous customers, beef and lamb in the same batch). As for dessert, it was fine. My floating island was good and homemade, and my wife's faisselle was just a regular faisselle straight from the store. Next door. So the food wasn't great. However, I'll say it again, the waitresses were friendly and very helpful.

The food is good in itself, but expensive for quite a few things. An espresso for €2.15? A "gourmet coffee" almost €8 when it's anything but gourmet. A scoop of ice cream, a mini Paris-Brest, and a mini madeleine for €8?! And yet I work at a motorway service station where prices are already very high. The aperitif was ready on the counter, but it took 20 minutes to bring it to us. More than an hour's wait for our main courses. Not to mention the glasses, which were full of marks, including one with actual lipstick stains! I must admit I'm quite skeptical.

The entrecôte was very stringy, but otherwise the food selection was good. Good value for money, and right next to the motorway exit, top notch.
