My favorite chip shop in Lille South and Lille Centre. The fries are cooked perfectly, the price is reasonable, and the service is fast.

I'll speak for Loris and me; there were two of us. We practically ran to Friterie Sensas because we were afraid it might be closed. We'd just woken up from a heavy night of drinking, and waking up was rough. We were served fairly quickly, though. We were really excited to try the fries: Loris had raved about them, and I, being Belgian and a big fan of chip shops, was curious to see for myself the quality of Northern fries. I have to admit I'd been a little disappointed with them in my recent experiences (see my review of the Georges V). As for my chicken tenders, no complaints. The chicken was incredibly tender, full of flavor, not to mention excellent, even reminding me of my hometown! However, I was a bit ambivalent about the fries: the flavor was there, pronounced, salty, and delicious. The texture, on the other hand, left me a little grumpy. Let me explain; Even at the chip shop, Loris and I noticed that the fries were taken out of the oil very quickly and were rather pale (they needed a few more minutes of cooking to achieve that golden-brown look so appreciated by Belgians and all fry lovers). They lacked structure, weren't limp, but didn't have that particular crust—not too crispy, but quite firm—characteristic of high-quality fries. I'll stop there regarding the fries. Now, let's move on to the sensitive, taboo subject: Loris's Mexicanos. For reference, a special (or a mitraillette, depending on your region) in Belgium costs less than that and comes with at least some raw vegetables, as well as a much more generous portion of fries, bread, and meat. Loris, who was (finally) in a good mood, was utterly disappointed by this sad, stale piece of baguette containing barely any sauce or meat. I won't dwell on this negative point any further because I strive to be an optimistic person, but know this, people of the North: your chip shops will never, EVER equal the Belgians.

A real treat! The quality of the food and the portion sizes have improved significantly since the change of ownership. Furthermore, the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly; I highly recommend it!

French fries are to the North what this chip shop is to Lille. Having tried many, Sensas' is definitely the best overall: I often order a simple tray of fries, and there are as many compliments to give as there are fries in that portion: very generous, overflowing in the bag, for a very low price. You almost have to be sure you're hungry to order the medium tray; so what about the large one?! Perfect for sharing, a generous and slightly indulgent treat. Among other things, the cooking is, quite simply, exactly how it should be enjoyed. No doubt about it, there's a bit of grease involved! Be warned, but don't be afraid of it. As for the service? Fast, with smiles and a friendly atmosphere that whets the appetite. I only have one criticism in this otherwise perfectly objective rave review of Sensas' chip shop: the size of the fries, which are unfortunately often a bit small and only manageable with greasy fingers. Otherwise, it's a perfect place for a hearty and welcoming meal!

Thank you so much for your concern! My diabetic brother-in-law was experiencing hypoglycemia, and they provided us with a free sugary drink which helped prevent complications!
