Hostellerie des Clos sur Chablis

Very good weekend for couples to repeat with very good restaurant service and spa service with impeccable treatments

We enjoyed the hotel and the restaurant. Very good service. On the other hand, we were disappointed with the rooms which lacked modernity.

Arriving in Chablis after a long drive from Margate is a delight - the town is as light and refreshing as a glass of cold Petit Chablis and so so pretty, with more Caves de Degustation than you can shake a stick at. Crawling through the narrow streets in the car so as to take in every single stone and window, with a whimpering dog in the boot desperate to arrive at her final destination - Hostellerie des Clos - the anticipation is reaching fever pitch. The hotel doesn't disappoint. Recommended by an excellent and recent list in The Guardian, this is our kinda place - dogs are positively welcomed with open arms and the staff (esp. Mathilde & Lea) are super friendly, charming and efficient. An easy walk to the river Serein and the centre of town, this hostellerie and restaurant couldn't be more perfect. And the food was delicious. Menu not too long (thank goodness) and plenty of choice, with lots of local produce. The starter came out almost immediately after apero... our waiter commented that the "chef was on fire" that night, and I think he was right. Great wine advice from a charming bloke (didn't get his name), guiding us elegantly through the enormous and slightly scary wine TOME, and a buzzy fun room. The bedroom was spacious, not expensive for what it was and its position in town and there was a great shower. Overall, a really positive experience. We didn't take advantage of the spa (not really my thing). Oooo, and lastly, not far off the beaten track, so an easy and picturesque drive back to the motorway via the very pretty Noyers-sur-Serein (recommend a drop-in).

Hotel moet worden gerenoveerd. Saaie kamer, donkere gang. Het ruikt muf en oud. Synthetisch beddengoed. Douche is prima. Wij hadden twee grote spinnen, een groene vierkante tor en een grote bromvlieg in de kamer. Restaurant ook saai, maar redelijke tot goede kwaliteit, niet duur.

Repas en famille le 28 octobre midi. 4 personnes, nous étions dans la partie verrière. Entrée, plat, dessert conforme à notre attente. Mais quelle déception sur les détails du restaurant : table ronde en bois aux bords usés et au vernis défraîchi, propreté limite. Verre à eau à la propreté limite ( ou alors usés par le lave vaisselle?).Pas de sets de table. Plafonds de la verrière déformé par une infiltration d'eau. Toiles d'araignée sur les vitres. Dans les toilettes hommes, fuite sous les WC, patère dévissée. Bref, déception qui nous a gâché notre repas.

Carte des vins magnifique. Dîner et déjeuner excellents. Dommage que les nappes ont disparu et un petit choix de plats

Det var andra gången jag bodde här. Ett bra hotell med mycket trevlig personal. Rummet var helt OK. Under eftermiddagen satt vi och drack en cremant (Clotilde Davenne) i deras trevliga trädgård-härligt med många gäster runt omkring. På middagen började hovmästaren med att berätta att kvällens kötträtt var slut. Förvånade beställde vi fisk till huvudrätt, men först blev det en carpaccio. Köttet i förrätten var mycket blött, som troligen kom från att den rikliga salladen ovanpå var nysköljd, men inte torkad. Det tog bort en del av dess smak. Dessutom var köttet inte speciellt mört. Fiskrätten var OK men inte mer. Desserten, som på min bild inte ser mycket ut för världen, var riktigt god.
