An incredible experience at MAGMA in Caen with the five-course tasting menu… blindfolded!
The ruse worked perfectly: I, who loudly proclaim that I hate fish, found myself savoring salmon, red mullet, and trout… and almost asking for more! 😅 It just goes to show, never say never… especially when the chef is behind the stove.
Each dish was a surprise, a deliciously orchestrated little gustatory suspense. The service was discreet, elegant, and efficient—you feel supported without ever being intrusive.
And a special mention to the chef, who circulated among the tables to gather feedback: a lovely human touch that made the experience even more enjoyable.
In conclusion: I'm officially reconciled with fish… well, as long as it's at MAGMA! 🔥👏

A romantic dinner for Valentine's Day; we had an incredible time, both for the ambiance and for the new flavors we discovered.

Yes, a very successful first visit and a second meal that really fell short. Hence the 3-star rating. Will I give it one last try? Frankly, I was extremely disappointed by my second meal... otherwise, the Pommeau was probably the best I've ever had.

A wonderful discovery during my visit to Caen, thanks to a reservation app. The cuisine is inventive, full of talent, and the tastes and flavors are a delight for the palate.
Will I return? Absolutely.
As for the music, it's a matter of taste.

Olivier Barbarin leaves us puzzled. The music, undeniably tasteful, will delight indie rock fans; Radiohead, Morrissey, and David Bowie are featured, contrasting sharply with the profound silence emanating from the open kitchen, where the chefs' ballet unfolds.
The cuisine, however, is a resounding success. The menus are remarkably varied, demonstrating the chef's exceptional imagination. I opted for the five-course Caldeira menu, which more than satisfied me from the amuse-bouche to dessert. The cuisine is original and expertly executed, living up to the serious nature of a fine-dining restaurant. Yet, it maintains a strong identity and authenticity, undoubtedly stemming from the chef's Auvergne roots. In short, for just under €60, you'll enjoy high-quality, expertly prepared food in a charming and unique setting—perfect for a special occasion or a treat ;) It's a real gem to have such an original restaurant in Caen. Without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best.

A very pleasant experience.
My only regret is the lack of a suggested food and drink pairing.
To sum it up in a nutshell: my son hates truffles and endives. The cheese was a truffled brie accompanied by endive leaves (among other things). The plate was emptied, with my son's comment: "I loved it!!"

The service was top-notch, the chef was attentive to his customers. My father is allergic to shellfish, so he mentioned it, and everything was handled perfectly to ensure he didn't have any. They even managed to make me enjoy truffles and endives, which I don't usually like. I highly recommend it.
