Kuma, France sur Paris

Wow! This small Japanese restaurant offers a unique and delicious experience! We loved our meal. Note that the restaurant is very small, so there's a high turnover of customers. We only spent a few minutes at our table, but the meal was delicious.

Kuma is often touted as one of the best curries in Paris, so I had to go and see for myself. 🍛 I opted for the house specialty, the Karaage curry. It was excellent! I appreciate this lighter version of Karaage without breading. The meat was tender, melt-in-your-mouth, and flavorful thanks to a well-infused marinade. The curry sauce was excellent, with a pleasant, spicy kick. I added a tamago egg as an extra. It was cooked perfectly, with a wonderfully creamy yolk. However, it wasn't necessary, as the dish is a complete meal in itself, and the portion is generous. The whole thing is a delight, and you quickly understand its reputation, although a few more vegetables in the sauce would have been a nice addition to the rice. 🍗 To avoid the queue, I chose to go on a weekday during the school holidays. This allowed me to get a table without any trouble. The service was quick and friendly. This is a great place to remember if you want to try this Japanese dish. Fantastic food, I had the Karaage chicken curry with egg but be prepared to wait for it. Be patient with the staff as they’re seemingly all cooking, serving and dealing with takeaway orders at the same time.

While in Paris, I saw many people recommending this restaurant on social media. The dining area is quite small, so I think you need to arrive early to eat in; I opted for takeout. The waitress was very kind. And wow, what a discovery! I ordered a vegetarian curry, and I've never had such a good curry. It was excellent, full of flavor and spicy; I didn't want to finish it, haha. The vegetables were delicious, and oh my goodness, the mushrooms were so good!!! Plus, a generous portion for a complete meal. The black sesame ice cream was also very good. Thank you!!!!

Good curry, excellent karaage! The curry is substantial but a little bland. The rice is perfectly cooked, and the service and atmosphere are very relaxed. I recommend it!

Delicious food at Kuma! The interior is way too small and you have to wait outside in the sun (20-30 minutes usually). Unfortunately you can’t reserve and you can’t leave your name with an employee, walk around, and then come back. They require you to stay outside in the road which is a shame.

If you're looking for comfort food and authentic flavors, look no further: everything here is absolutely delicious. What makes this place irresistible: An exceptional Chicken Katsu Curry, quite simply the best in the capital! The chicken katsu is perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the curry sauce is rich, fragrant, and incredibly comforting. The finishing touch: Special mention goes to the perfectly runny ajitsuke egg (ajitama), which adds an incredible touch of indulgence to the dish. Impeccable service: The staff is exceptionally kind, the service is warm, quick, and always accompanied by a smile. Whether for a quick lunch break or a gourmet meal, it's flawless from start to finish. Go for it without hesitation!

Update: I updated my review to 5*.. because at the end of the day, given the limited space of the restaurant, the team delivered on the food and service. Finally tried this place after hearing a lot about it, and it lived up to expectations. The food was great—flavourful, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. Now I get why there’s usually a queue. That said, it’s a very small space with only counter seating, so not the most comfortable spot if you’re looking to linger. Still, definitely worth a visit if you're after a quick but really solid meal.
