La Barcarolle sur Bastia

Had a delicious lunch, surprisingly good sardines as a starter and a huge pavlova for dessert: highly recommended!

Good restaurant on the old port of Bastia. We had the trio of specialties and the fiadone for dessert; everything was very good. Good white wine by the glass. Quick and friendly service. I recommend it.

Superb location overlooking the old port of Bastia. Warm and friendly welcome. Excellent home-cooked meals, including sardines and eggplant à la Bonifacienne. The fries are homemade. Ideal for families with children, as they also offer pizzas, pasta, and burgers.

A truly excellent restaurant; I don't understand why they don't have more stars. Impeccable service, beautiful interior, and the dishes we ordered were superb. I went back a second time and was never disappointed!

A good start, but then things went downhill. The focus was clearly on attracting customers. The tartare and wine were delicious, but then it was a complete disaster. The fish of the day (brine) was overcooked and no longer translucent. Annoying for €40. A similar issue with the daily fresh sea bream, where, to make matters worse, the wrong fish arrived first and had to be brought back. It was also left out of the heat for too long. A shame. With a little more effort, it could have been a 5-star experience. Using a supposed kitchen assistant to handle the rush is inappropriate for both the location and the price point. During peak hours, you end up sitting for ages with empty plates and glasses while the "head waiter" sits at the next table for 5 minutes playing on his phone. Afterwards, he prefers to chat with local guests, while tourists are almost completely ignored. A pity. We've had much better experiences elsewhere.

Enticed by a waiter, we gave in to temptation and we're so glad we did. The food was delicious, the plates were beautifully balanced and attractive (though not very generous if you're starving). The welcome was very pleasant, and the waiters and waitresses clearly showed their passion for food. The waiter in particular made us want to try ALL the desserts with his enthusiasm.

As soon as we arrived, they didn't give us time to look at the menu and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked for still water, but we weren't expecting it to cost €6 on our bill at the end of the evening. We specifically asked if they had house wine, again because we hadn't had time to look at the menu. They said yes and offered us a half liter, only to find ourselves paying over €20 for a 50cl bottle. It's a shame because we really enjoyed the Corsican tasting menu, but these surprises on the bill weren't great.

This restaurant on Bastia's old port offers a varied menu. The dishes are decent in terms of both quality and quantity. The major drawback is the service; it takes 45 minutes between ordering and being served. The restaurant seems completely disorganized, despite the owner boasting about being there for 30 years. The problem is that they're trying to serve as many customers as possible and are completely overwhelmed. I might return to Bastia, but I won't be going back to this establishment; there are plenty of other restaurants around the old port.
