La Bérangère sur Les Contamines-Montjoie

A mixed experience at La Bérangère for the last restaurant of our stay, after a fantastic experience at another restaurant in the resort earlier in the week. We appreciated the attentive service of the two young waiters and the warm welcome for our group of eight. The biggest disappointment was the food, with portions that were truly tiny for a mountain restaurant. My 10-year-old son ordered the roasted Camembert, and the cheese looked more like Rocamadour than Camembert! Children's menus are sometimes more generous. I ordered fondue served with salad and an extra portion of charcuterie. The result: three small leaves and five or six small slices of sausage, ham, and other cured meats. And a rather bland taste. Probably a lot of Emmental and not enough Beaufort or Comté. My companion and I finished the fondue with a few pieces of bread. Ladies and gentlemen in the kitchen, please be more generous with the portions!

We had dinner at this restaurant without a reservation. No wait, but you could only eat inside. No problem. The dishes were simple and traditional, but the portions were barely enough for a young person after a long hike. We ordered two Cokes, a mountain salad, two burgers, and two ice creams.

Excellent value for money! Unbeatable at the resort.

We came during the village festival. A more challenging time for a restaurant, especially one that has to cater to a large crowd. Not disappointed at all. Impeccable service and a superb meal. We had a wonderful time!

We came one evening, a party of five. We arrived at 7:45 pm… our food was ordered at 8:30 pm, okay, it was busy… and served at 9:25 pm… I'll let you look at the photos of the plates. Roasted Camembert €18 (tiny and I doubt it was Camembert, 2 slices of sausage, 1 slice of cured ham, and we had to ask for potatoes because they were forgotten) Tagliatelle Bérangère €16 (tasteless) Cordon bleu, coquillettes €17 (generous portion but the coquillettes were overcooked) Bavette steak €24 (okay, nothing special) No more steak knives at 9:30 pm!! Seriously!! They really need to rethink their kitchen organization! The two young waiters are doing their best and running around everywhere, good luck to them because the season has only just begun! In conclusion, the management is nonexistent, and this is reflected in the restaurant, which is otherwise well-located and pleasant. NO, we will not be returning.

This "Café Resto," right in the heart of the village, seems to be a Contamines institution: it's a place where you feel right at home! The food is delicious, both the local dishes (fondue and charcuterie) and the traditional daily special. Thank you to the chef! Thank you to the owner, Isabelle, whom we are always delighted to see again each summer for her warm welcome, and to Pierre, the smiling and efficient waiter.

It was the most delicious hamburger I've had in the last year or two.

Cappuccino was good. We also bought nice cakes from the next door!
