If gastronomy is a journey, La Chope is a must-visit stop in Tours. From the moment you step through its doors on Avenue de Grammont, you enter a restaurant with a Belle Époque soul: velvet banquettes, mirrors that stretch time, and an elegant ambiance reminiscent of grand, classic French tables, where the past feels at home and ever-present.
The cuisine is an ode to freshness and seasonality. Every dish—whether an exquisitely balanced homemade foie gras, or especially a perfectly cooked market catch or a seafood platter worthy of celebration—is prepared with absolute respect for the ingredients. Local and seafood products are treated with a precision only seen in establishments steeped in history and tradition.
The service is warm, professional, and understated: you're greeted with a smile that hints at what's to come. And even when the restaurant is lively, the attention to detail never falters.

We discovered this restaurant and were absolutely not disappointed; refined cuisine, beautifully presented dishes, and a warm welcome. A great find in the center of Tours.

We'd wanted to come here for a long time, and we finally had dinner as a family.
It's a true institution with impeccable, pleasant, and discreet service. The Belle Époque decor and style, along with the staircase at the back of the room, remind us that this establishment has a long history.
The seafood was, of course, superb, the Gillardeau oysters were delicious, and the lobster was perfect. Duck breast and other meats are also available for those who prefer them.
The fish is perfectly cooked and presented.
For dessert, the poached pear immersed me in French tradition.
The wine list is excellent, featuring some great vintages. The only downside is that this impressive selection isn't more readily available by the glass.
We'll definitely be back, and this time for lunch to experience a different atmosphere with the daily menu.
