We stayed from July 1st to 6th, 2026. We were a group of 15 people. Excellent establishment; the staff were smiling, friendly, and attentive to the entire group. The dinners were excellent, generous, and made with high-quality ingredients. Breakfasts were plentiful. The hotel is well located for visiting the region and the town center of Besse-Saint-Anastaise, a charming medieval town.

There seems to be a disconnect between the advertised services and the reality... let me explain: it's a 2-star hotel, not a 3-star. Very clean... but also aging, with a manager who seems weary of her job, tense, and it shows. From the moment we arrived, the restrictions were communicated firmly and frequently, making it difficult to relax and feel like we were on vacation: dinner from 7:30 to 8:00 pm is cramped, and the dining room is crowded too: our table was right next to our neighbors' (a family table with grandparents and their two grandchildren; we had to squeeze ours in to be together), while only one other table was occupied. No room wasted... Breakfast is served until 9:30 am at the latest. The bar is inaccessible: on our first night, the manager, who was there with her family, blocked our access: "Have an aperitif at your table if you want one..." Well... it's not exactly written like that. It's worth noting that the menu is adapted for gluten intolerance. A few hiccups, but thanks to the manager for the effort. Let's quickly move on to the spa/pool: since it's stormy, we thought, great, time for bubbles and the heat of the sauna... well, only from 4:30 PM, until 7:30 PM at the latest, and the jacuzzi is on its last legs, the sauna closed (clearly for a long time), and the facilities are outdated... Oh well, we'll read in our room... uh, yes, and it's cool because there's so much wind blowing through that the pages can practically turn themselves! 3 stars... but barely 17 degrees Celsius in the room... we have to barricade ourselves in with pillows because the curtains don't even stay up, it's so poorly insulated and the wind is blowing in. We're in a very cold draft... No shutters.
As for amenities, there's only one power outlet: insufficient for cell phones.
The next day, even though we didn't want any housekeeping in our room, we put the required label on the door. The manager came in while we were out... she added a blanket to the bed and a bath towel to cover the window... it was nice, but changing our room wouldn't have been bad either... It was becoming very makeshift! A 2-star room, but no better! I bumped into the sink shelf to rinse my face and the other side to brush my (medium-length) hair. The shower was cramped with a curtain. So, we had the hotel as described, a heavy atmosphere, and a terrible storm for the entire stay. So we wanted to leave. Okay, but a reservation means you owe... well, given the service, that's outrageous... we negotiated for one more night, and the third one was fine. When it came time to pay, the manager disagreed. Apparently, we had misunderstood. I refused point-blank. She agreed not to charge for the night she didn't stay, but she still tried and put on the pressure... I really wanted to get away from that pressure... Nothing about the breakdowns, the cold weather, or any kind of restrictions is displayed, nor are the terms and conditions... You can sense some difficulties and hope things get better if that's the case, but it comes across as unpleasant. Apart from the restaurant, breakfast was great, what an atmosphere!
