La Goulette sur Marseille

A very good Tunisian restaurant, a Marseille institution.

The atmosphere is typical of a Tunisian restaurant. The food is basic: couscous, which I recommend with merguez. The desserts are a must-try.

I went there in May with my girlfriend and we had a fantastic time. Honestly, La Goulette deserves much more than its current 4.0 rating (it's worth at least a 4.7/5 in our opinion! In Germany, a restaurant like this would be rated much higher, but perhaps the French are a bit too demanding 😉). We ordered the chicken couscous and it was absolutely delicious, generous, and full of authentic flavors. I've read some recent negative reviews about the wait or the service, and I want to strongly disagree with them: for us, the wait was very short, and the staff were extremely friendly, smiling, and attentive from beginning to end. The atmosphere is great. Admittedly, the space is a bit small, but this creates a warm and very friendly atmosphere where everyone is kind. Don't let the few bad reviews discourage you; it's an excellent place that I wholeheartedly recommend! G+N

We ordered one homemade couscous and one royal couscous, pastries, and two mint teas—everything was excellent 😋 The staff were very friendly and the prices were very reasonable. We highly recommend La Goulette and will definitely return.

The staff are friendly, pleasant, smiling, and attentive; the food is excellent, whether it's the couscous or the tagine; and the service is very fast.

Excellent Tunisian restaurant just steps from the Old Port. The tagine was absolutely delicious and the portions were very generous. Unbeatable value for money!

Generous portions. Very tasty couscous. Merguez sausages just the way we like them. Table service with water carafes and baguettes to accompany the dishes.

One of my favorite restaurants in Marseille, despite a few minor flaws. The couscous is truly excellent: generous, flavorful, and always well-presented. The broth is fragrant, the meats are perfectly cooked, and the portions definitely make you want to come back. The atmosphere is pleasant and authentic, and the food is consistently excellent. One small drawback, however: the service varies greatly depending on the day and the staff on duty. Sometimes the service is very warm, other times a bit colder or rushed. Nothing dramatic, but it's the only point that could be improved, in my opinion. Despite this, it remains a very good place in Marseille to enjoy a delicious couscous.

Great experience. Hearty and delicious meal at a very affordable price. Efficient service, we'll be back.
