La Musardine sur Chartres

Wandering through the winding streets of Chartres' old town, we stumbled upon this unassuming little establishment. However, don't let that first impression fool you. The welcome is warm, as is the service, and a special mention goes to the daily special and dessert. The duck breast was perfectly crispy. Even the bill wasn't steep (15 euros for the andouillette sausage compared to 17-18 euros elsewhere).

A very pleasant place, with an incredibly caring and friendly waiter who was interested in the customers. We ate and smiled. He gave me a fruit dessert for free, which was very, very sweet. He was charmingly attentive and chatted with another customer's children. Overall, a wonderful, warm place with delicious and affordable food. I highly recommend it!

I didn't enjoy my visit to La Musardine: the toilets were dirty, the menus were dirty, and my dish wasn't very good. The only positive point was the waiter's friendliness.

We stopped in at La Musardine with two tired and hot children midway through a long drive to Caen. We hadn't had the best experience of french hospitality on our trip so were feeling a little wary of eating out but we were immediately put at ease by the friendly welcome. While le menù enfants is always a little limited in France (read: chicken nuggets) the rest of the food was phenomenal. My husband had a duck starter that looked worthy of a Michelin star, and a steak that more than equalled others we'd had at much more expensive establishments. The creme brulee was heavenly, and the Rosè deliciously chilled. Thank you very much!

We had a mixed experience at La Musardine. We arrived at 1 p.m. and several desserts on the set menu were already sold out, which was a bit disappointing. The set menu price was still reasonable, but it reflected the quality of the food. The salad was quite basic, with a dressing that tasted artificial. The croque-monsieur was rather dry, and the homemade fries, while generous, were too greasy for our liking. As for dessert, the chocolate mousse was very good. However, the lemon dessert lacked lightness and was a bit cloying. In short, a rather mixed experience. On the other hand, one very positive point: the servers were particularly pleasant and attentive, which made the experience more enjoyable.

This is my second visit to this small restaurant. I was very disappointed by the scallop casserole (€18). Nice presentation, but no flavor. The seasoning was completely missing, and it really lacked a side dish like rice to make it more substantial. The same goes for my friend with her chicken wok; we both left hungry. Please get your act together; some dishes are generous and tasty, but today it was a complete failure. 😉

Amazing food, great prices, very friendly staff

We discovered this friendly little restaurant on the recommendation of my sister, who lives in Chartres. The first time, we took her advice and had lunch there because the prices were reasonable. We were very happy with our meal. Back in Chartres, we ate there twice more this week. The value for money is really good. Each time, we opted for the express menu at €15.90 (main course + dessert). The dishes are well-presented, visually appealing, and have little touches of flair (popcorn, seasonings, etc.). The desserts are delicious and much better than some chain or fast-food restaurants. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, the staff is attentive, and doesn't pressure you to order more. If you want, you can always find negative points, but nothing is perfect in a restaurant (unless you go to a gourmet restaurant?). Thank you and best of luck!
