La Table de Fontfroide sur Narbonne

We came to Le 89 on the 24th of July while visiting Narbonne and had a really good experience. The place has a nice atmosphere, not too formal but still feels like a proper restaurant. It’s the kind of place where you can sit, enjoy your meal and have a good time without feeling rushed. The food was really good, everything came well presented and the portions were more than enough. I tried the Johnny’s Burger which was really tasty, and my friend had the Caesar salad which he really enjoyed as well. The quality was there and you can see that they care about what they serve. The service was also a big part of why we enjoyed the evening. The staff were friendly, welcoming and always there when needed. The young guy with curly hair and the dark-haired guy were both really nice and had a good energy, they made the atmosphere even better. Overall a great place to stop if you’re in Narbonne. Good food, good service and a nice vibe. Would definitely come back next time I’m in the area.

We tried this restaurant during an evening of entertainment, including a sound and light show. So, a set menu was offered. The venue is magnificent, and the restaurant's decor is lovely. We enjoyed the meal. The food was excellent, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The ingredients were high-quality and expertly prepared. A flawless experience from start to finish. I wouldn't hesitate to repeat the experience, but perhaps in a different setting.

Set menu and light show: €59 Charming restaurant with a lovely terrace. The set menu was decent: two starters, two main courses, and two desserts (the peach melba turned out to be raspberries...). The staff was very pleasant, especially Floriane, who was smiling and professional and made up for the delay in taking orders and serving. The only downside was the sound and light show at 10 pm, which lasted exactly 20 minutes. Lots of graphic images and very little history of the abbey—very disappointing despite the splendid setting. As we left, the people around us shared the same opinion: very disappointed with the show.

A multitude of expertly orchestrated flavors in each dish, with a genuine attention to pairing, made for a truly delightful meal. The staff are incredibly welcoming and professional; keep up the good work in both areas. However, the wine served and offered made me bristle, not for its taste, but because it wasn't from Fontfroide. The label is pictured as proof, of course. The restaurant doesn't offer any wine from the famous abbey, even though you're practically dining at the foot of its vineyards. It's almost ridiculous to see the wine shop next to the restaurant also selling Narbonne wines on the premises without mentioning it unless you ask. Worse still, they explain that the shop only carries organic wines, which is why you can't find the wines from the winemaker who works on the same property. I'm not saying the wine served wasn't good, but it's clearly a rip-off by suggestion. I don't like this way of taking advantage of customers who walk by and trust you regarding the origin of the wine. Leaving the restaurant was rather unpleasant, whereas it should have been a pleasant experience with a wine pairing recommended by SITE. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

Excellent restaurant, the welcome is truly warm. The service is top-notch, the waitstaff is competent and attentive. Everything on the plates is perfect, from the appetizer to the dessert, both original and delicious. The swordfish was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it!

Quite disappointed compared to the restaurant's website, which really sells a dream... At aperitif time, there was no Pastis (or anything like it) on a Tuesday because they'd sold out over the weekend: not great for early July in the south. 😕 The set menu, whatever you choose, isn't customizable: it's always starter + main course + dessert. I opted for the "Ardoise" menu because the "Héritage" menu seemed a bit too much. The starter (the perfect egg with peppers) was good. Then came the swordfish steak with saffron rice, which was okay but nothing special (too greasy, and not enough saffron). Dessert was pistachio ice cream and an apricot tart, which were rather bland. The staff were friendly, but I still got the feeling I was in a tourist trap. The price of €34.90 is reasonable, but you get what you pay for, nothing more. In short, apart from the superb location, if you can eat elsewhere you won't be missing much. 😉

We had lunch at this restaurant for a bachelor/bachelorette party, and the staff were incredibly generous. The food was excellent, as was the attentive and meticulous service. In short, this little restaurant nestled near the abbey is definitely worth a visit to enjoy both the setting and the high-quality ingredients.

For lunch we chose the Heritage Menu. The dishes were refined and beautifully presented, with one small drawback: the cod loin lacked sauce, which was a shame because it was otherwise delicious. The service was impeccable: very professional. The setting is magnificent.

A delightful culinary surprise after visiting the magnificent Fontfroide Abbey. Tasty local dishes, beautifully presented and complemented by a delicious white wine, Cuvée Sérénité, from the estate's vineyard.

Second time at this restaurant, but a feeling of disappointment. The food is very good, well-prepared, and the atmosphere and setting are nice, but the service was appalling. I'm not one to complain, but here are a few examples: - The servers don't know the table numbers, so they bring dishes to the wrong tables or bring you dessert when you're waiting for your main course. - You order meat, and they bring you fish. - The lady is served last, the gentleman first. That's basic courtesy, isn't it? - You order an espresso and a decaf, and they bring you a long coffee. - The head waiter yells at the server in front of you. - The upside is that it creates a bond with your table neighbors, who laugh with you. - When the bill arrives, I politely mention that the service wasn't great, and there's no apology; it's the kitchen's fault! The complimentary coffee, even though I didn't ask for it, would have been nice, especially considering the bill was nearly €100 for two people. Come on, a little more effort and maybe we'll come back ;-)
